And the crazy thing I recognize is that while in many ways my parents were lower middle class to poor for awhile, one set of grandparents was definitely poor, and the other was middle class, nobody was financially safe. The most well to do grandparents made it on $75 a week. Grandpa built the house!
I’m Gen X in the rural South. My parents both worked until retirement (which wasn’t that long ago). Both sets of grandparents worked until retirement. Both grandmothers made clothes for the family. On top of farming all the vegetables for years (all grandparents).

If you want to know if MAGA might actually be in trouble, look at NC and the Sam Page versus Phil Berger election debacle. Berger has been the leading cause of most everything bad in this state for nigh on 20 years. His son is a Supreme Court justice. And in the primary he lost by 2 votes.
