Summer of love: rescued these two scissor grinders (Neotibicen linnei) from the road - hopefully with little disruption! π (My partners submission to #2025OwlflyPhoto).
In a survey of nearly 1,400 scientists released this week, 83% said federal government policies since January 20, 2025, had caused an "extremely negative impact" or "irreparable harm" on their field of science.
Ann Coulter's statement that "We didn't kill enough Indians" is a call for violence against Native people.
D4I's presenting at the AISES National Conference 2025 in MN! Our presentation titled βNot Like Us: Indigenous-Led Solutions for a Tribal Data Repositoryβ will describe what D4I is doing for Indigenous data sovereignty with our repository work. Will you be at #AISESNC25? conference.aises.org/agenda
Heading home from my first round of fieldwork this season! I love connecting with the land in this way - being in community and learning from our more-than-human relations while in the field. From woodlands to prairies I goβ¦ π₯π #pyroentomology #culturalfire #NativeinSTEM #womeninSTEM

Ripened strawberry - first sign of summer!
Simple recipe for making strawberry drink, which is part of our ceremonies.
Yesterday was TwahyahnekΓlha (Strawberry Ceremony) back at home. Each June, we celebrate and give thanks to the leader of the plants, awΚΜhihteΚΌ (wild strawberry), brought to our world by Skywoman. The berries, leaves & roots are medicine for our people. Make your own awΚΜhihteΚΌ drink (simple recipe)!
Excited to head to #Evol2025 next week! It will be my last year in a presidential role for The Society of Systematic Biologists @systbiol.bsky.social and as such I will be giving the SSB Presidential Address. www.evolutionmeetings.org/plenaries.html
There are only 14,393 comments submitted as of this moment! That's waaaay too few, considering the number of people who are affected by or rely on NIH/NSF funding.
Bumblebee on a bergamot flower at Oneida, Wisconsin
Cheyenne Reuben-Thomas saying hello to a bumble bee
It's #worldbeeday! At Oneida Nation, our tsinuhnΓ©hklis (bee) relatives are essential to our livelihoods. Not only do they pollinate our crops/orchards and medicines (eg, bergamot or #6), we have seen many return home as we restore habitats on the reservation - including the rusty-patched bumble bee!

Thankfully, these cicadas started emerging as the Onondaga were facing homelessness and starvation. The cicadas helped them gain strength to persevere and rebuild, and they remain a strong community today. I am always happy to hear their songs and continue to give thanks for each emergence.
Cicadas were a gift from Creator to help our Onondaga relatives survive after the path of destruction left by the Sullivan Campaign. Unfortunately, this was one of many instances where fire was weaponized against our people, with orders to burn down Haudenosaunee longhouses, villages, and crops.
Cheyenne Reuben-Thomas happily posing with several cicadas on her hand.

Woke up thinking about our ogweΓ±yo'da (cicada) relatives. Our Onondaga brood won't be seen again until 2035, but I am always delighted to see nearby broods. These amazing insects are an example of our resiliency as Haudenosaunee people and I celebrate every emergence.

I was honoured with a @genomecanada.bsky.social societal impact award tonight. Genome Canada/AB/BC give key support to sing-canada.ca, Indigenous researchers who do genomics for Indigenous communities. Tonight was bittersweet while Indigenous scientists across the border are in triage mode.
NASA workers were told to "drop everything" and spend their time scrubbing mentions of women in leadership, indigenous people, and environmental justice from the web: www.404media.co/nasa-dei-dro...
This whole list is infuriating but especially (for me) Indigenous communities π

FOX News blaming Native people for the California fires is unspeakably irresponsible, devoid of anything near journalism, colonizer dodging of responsibility.
