Technical debt always loses the prioritisation battle, but ignoring it isn't free. It's deferred cost with interest.
I wrote about how gov teams can tackle it. Make debt visible, protect sprint capacity, and modernise incrementally without stopping delivery.

These train journeys you're taking are becoming a valuable gov service! It's great (and a little scary) how quickly this was spun up and the accuracy of routing/calculations.
We've seen why it's critical to run things safely. Often this can be traced back to decisions made over time.
This framing is helpful for teams. Adds weight to raise outside of retros.
Short post on tackling tech debt. Make it visible + modernise incrementally.

These are great, it is strange that we (rightfully) ask delivery teams to track how things are going but don't measure leadership. I think Information flow speed, if quantified by time or Β£ (particularly in big programmes) would shock people.

Come on United ππ½ - Great way to end my birthday, which started by having a nice brunch at Farm Girl opposite the Natural History Museum.

This has got a Senegal win written all over it nowβ¦
HE TRIED A PANENKA?!!!! Nahhhh! πππππππ
I canβt believe heβs actually tried that! What was he thinking?!!!
The final of the African Nations Cup has descended in to total anarchy.
Senegal are walking off the pitch?!
Ref has made two appalling decisions but this is poor!
I think Iβve finally recovered π
Lovely to hear you followed along, thank you!
I couldnβt make it to #ukgc26 but Iβll be following along on here. Look forward to hearing all about it π
This incredible trip is almost over, weβre waiting at the terminal for flight to Heathrow via Istanbul.
As one of few visible muslim folk in our online gov community, I hope youβve enjoyed my updates as much as iβve loved documenting my first trip to the 2 holiest sites in Islam.
I need some sleep
Itβs 10pm and 20 degrees here. Top tip, check the actual weather forecast rather than Reels showing rain and snow.
And yet I still packed thermals and all sorts π₯²
Hello from the Prophetβs mosque.
Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, Medina π
The many people who work at both holy sites are incredible human beings. They keep things ticking for the millions of visitors. Keeping sacred areas clean, providing water to all, making sure libraries are organised and always ready to point you in the right direction.
Many are from Bangladesh β€οΈ
The Iconic Madinah umbrellas shade the courtyard of the Prophetβs Mosque courtyard. These elegant, retractable canopies blend modern engineering with Islamic design, offering comfort to millions of people who come here.
Suddenly the chaos and noise turns silent and you can hear a pin drop.
Arrived in Madinah couple hours ago. Almost straight away you notice the different vibe here compared to Mecca.
Mecca is powerful, intense, physically and emotionally demanding.
Madinah feels more calm, gentle and relaxed.
About to take the new bullet train from Mecca to Medina. There is a Subway at the station, which is a pleasant surprise.
Love a tuna melt!
Tomorrow is my last day in Mecca before we go to Medina. Itβs been an emotional, (at times) stressful and very spiritual experience.
The stories my grandad told me about the grand mosque have come to life. It really is the city that does not sleep.
Inspiring to see such devotion and history.
Speaking of coffee. The iced coffeeβs in Mecca are delicious ππ½
Had to cover up my freshly trimmed head during peak hours today. Iβm not even sure itβs on properly, watched two youtube tutorials whilst waiting for coffee.
