The wild thing about this is every single one of these 5000 contracts has made it through layers and layers of agency review and been deemed "mission critical" precisely because the secretary is insisting on reviewing them. There are probably 1000s of others that the agency just gave up on.

"A crisis": Lake whitefish survey paints an even more dire picture
One scientist thinks lake whitefish could disappear from certain parts of the Great Lakes within the next five years.
Invasive quagga and zebra mussels have disrupted the food web in parts of the Grest Lakes, diverting nutrients away from planktivorous fishes, thereby "making it extremely difficult for whitefish to reach adulthood in Lake Michigan and Huron".
