Watched Digimon as a kid and thought that Hikari was a beautiful name for a girl, and that I'd save it for my daughter if I had one.

Agreed! The old ones don't look bad, but they don't look distinct. So they kinda look like genre filler.

I love these ones because they give a strong sense of the characters and even hint at their personalities and the setting.

These covers are a lot more eye-grabbing than the headless fadeout versions I've seen on the store shelf. I'm a lot more interested in these! Adding them to my list now.

Just watched Slanted (2025) and holy shit, it is a trip to watch that movie as both a trans person and an Asian person.

Also, I think it might have weirdly been a better adaptation of Gene Luen Yang‘s “American-Born Chinese” than the Disney series.

If they really wanted to help children, they'd pour money into schools, into food programs, into sex ed, into social care. Things that are PROVEN to actually protect children.

But they don't, and that kind of tells you everything about them. They'd rather hurt us than help kids.

Thing is, i could see this appealing to fans of automation-style games, like Universal Paperclips.

The point being that encountering big/scary emotions in safe, controlled environments makes it easier to process them and have support for them.

Some people watch horror movies for the same reason and some trauma survivors read/watch stories featuring their trauma specifically to help process.
