My usual approaches are useless here. I can’t build my own llm. I can’t look at the source or throw it in a disassembler - it’s just matrix multiplication. Even if I understood multihead attention properly, the weights do not have individual meanings in the ways I am used to from code or circuits
LLMs feel unknowable. I find this viscerally unpleasant. Yes, computers are unfathomably complex but each level follows predictable rules you can understand with reading, logic and trial and error. (Conditions apply.) Dunno how to understand X00 bn parameters. Perhaps at some level it can be done?
Uplink! Now that is a name I’ve not heard in a long time. I was a big fan of the games Ambrosia published on the Mac - put many hours into the escape velocity series as a kid in particular. I think I was a bit too young to really click with uplink but I should give it another go sometime
