"Russia is providing Iran with targeting information to attack American forces...
Russia has passed Iran the locations of U.S. military assets, including warships and aircraft...
'It does seem like itβs a pretty comprehensive effort,'" an official said.
Thanks. So many have it so much worse, but it still stinks every time.
In February this school district in Texas banned hundreds of books for teenagers.
The book of mine they decided to ban has been on the Texas Library Association's recommended reading list for high schools and for middle schools for over decade.
Here's a list: nbisd.org/library-mate...
I have confidence so far! Really loving it and already excited to read the sequel.
This is so grim.
When I worked on child soldier issues back in 2001-2007, recruitment strategies were things like showing off motorcycles, weapons, money, but most militias publicly denied using child soldiers. Now, the attention economy offers them status and adults exploit that.
Not my insight and paraphrasing but if you want to know how youβll be living in ten years, look how how business and government are treating the most marginalized today.
The disappearance of YA book collections in public librariesβand the parallel winnowing of YA librarianship. Where are young people supposed to BE young people?
That, plus an extremely long roundup of censorship news: bookriot.com/the-disappea...
Just started reading THE COLLABORATORS by @michaelidov.bsky.social and I am so into it! So far, exactly the espionage thriller I needed.

βVery happy to find a saint who melts ice and saves queer people.β
β @alexanderchee.bsky.social on Mamma Schiavona, an Italian saint who has become a symbol for those who are oppressed and marginalized but still worthy of divine protection.
Iβm not versed in the lore, but isnβt that the backstory plot of Fallout?
You are allowed to say, "this performance was not to my personal taste, a thing that sometimes happens in a free society," and move on with your life.
I wrote about why I'm skeptical of that AI author earning six figures pumping out 200 books a year story, but also about how authors might need to surf above the waves of slop countercraft.substack.com/p/surfs-up-i...
My latest novel for 8-12 year olds is out in paperback today!
If you thought the Frog Prince story needed a punk princess, action, adventure, love, parents, community, feminism, a multiverse, unicorn frat bros, and a nihilistic void, check it out: bookshop.org/a/722/978006...
I really want people to think about this. After all the insane lawsuits, all the threats, all the bullshit weve seen from this admin and the targets who kneeled in fear, an average Joe called the president a Pedophile protector to his face and didn't get touched. That's the Power of a union.
Looks creepy af!
βJokes on them, weβre even better at despair than they are.β

I do feel like this article is extra depressing in the context of the Washington Post book section being cut. We're losing the avenues for discovery of real books at the same time that the slop flood hits
"you might stumble over a whole collective of people resisting in ways you didn't think of. There's a crew of carpenters just going around fixing kicked-in doors. There are tow truck drivers taking cars of detained people away for free...."
But with the help of A.I., Ms. Hart can publish books at an astonishing rate. Last year, she produced more than 200 romance novels in a range of subgenres, from dark mafia romances to sweet teen stories, and self-published them on Amazon.
I don't see how self-publishing world survives GenAI. It's going to be an absurd increase in slop books with no reason to expect any increase in paying readers.

hard to think of a better example of "you may not believe in class war, but billionaires know they're in one" than this
it felt a little like the apotheosis of Timeline as art form; invoking Fanon on the side of billionaire slop machines was divine.
The Stasi seemed a permanent and all-powerful agency of state terror in East Germany until they were completely abolished
"Screw the platforms. Ignore the stuff that you think sucks. Find books and art you love. Share them. Review them. Recommend them to friends. Make your own art. Share it. Hope it finds people who love it. What else can we do?" hell yeah @thelincoln.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/counterc...
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeareβs Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

The second book in my PRINCESS PROTECTION PROGRAM series for 8-12 year olds comes out in paperback on Tuesday.
Y'all should buy it, even if you aren't 8-12 years old.

This a must watch. Amazing and amazing that it's Shakespeare on network tv!
As a boy from Baltimore myself, this song tracks I guess...
