About a man that is running Gold for the queen and gets attacked by Pirates and is sent to his death but has vision of a Bear and becomes a Pirate. Later he is attacked by a Viking ship. I am a sucker for Pirate comics.

Posting this on its own since I forgot all about it til recently. Itβs a splash from the series COYOTES by esteemed writer @seanlewis.bsky.social for #ImageComics. My first published comic π
Caitlin was next level from the start.
writing is the act of making decisions. being brave enough to decide and go forward, knowing you'll have to fix it in the future. even if the future is years later.
I pitched this article off the cuff, and it turned into one of my favorites. Then I talked to both Sean and Jonathan about BPVQ here:

Still can't believe one of my favorite writers answered all my questions. I'll remember that forever.

And for any of the naysayers. Never forget, the one time a major publisher gave me their flagship books to run with... I broke records. #KingSpawn #Scorched

n comics, I'm shifting to a new era for myself. More incredible but under realized artists, more books unlike anything you've seen. I hope the shit doesn't kill me.
I love comics, honestly, more than I should. It's an amazing art form and a typically horrible business.
But I've also found if you DENY the business, if you DENY what people tell you success is you can reset the whole game. And THEN yo can do special things.
have happened without me going to cons. without me playing the games. without me working the angles. I still know like 4 people total in comics.

How you have a comic career...
1. you don't worry about the trends or anything people tell you, you should be doing. If you want longevity... stay out of the social circles and the gossip. Have a POV.

the brilliance of bsky from the developers was creating a twitter where no one shares anything. just content with no rot for the user. kinda fascinating.
the old ways are not going to win.
but the good news, shit can still be ours.
but you got to dream it. you gotta say no to the gig that maybe pays but doesn't advance.
you gotta move different.
there it is. (19/19)
lots of existential threats.
lots of ppl trying to dictate our lives and our work.
lots of opinions from "experts" who usually didn't do anything.
it is not the Moment to walk in step. (18/?)
and for me that's how comics should be. divisive but fascinating. weird. new.
and that's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm in talks with lots of non traditional places. a few traditional. I don't know where I'll be doing things... but we all know the moment we are in. (17/?)
but as we know speculator money (outside money) made it less fun, less punk, less OURS.
And that's the core. I don't care if you personally have loved the creator owned stuff I've done. But go to Goodreads or league of comics. it's someone's FAVORITE. (16/?)
because there was less corporate money the creators were interesting too. John Byrne talked shit about everybody. the Image boys behaved like pro wrestlers with each other... the whole thing was INTERESTING (15/?)
and I was only a touch older for the indie boom. dark horse presents into the launch of image comics. I remember being a kid reading CONCRETE in DHP. and being like "this is a comic?" I remember picking up early Image and feeling the energy in the layouts. (14/?)
which had a punk rock energy and newness. and a lack of being precious or even close to perfect. they were fun. somewhat disposable and proud of it. (id argue this care free- ness caused them to not be disposable) (13/?)
as a kid I got to live through a few massive and cool transitions in the business. I was VERY young in the black and white boom: first TMNT, the CROW, the TICK (12/?)
and often very little is pushed forward in the medium. and as a result ground is lost to manga. and to scholastic. and webtoons. which are all necessary because they are evolutions and also find younger and OBSESSED readers. (11/?)
they announce a new initiative and for 2-3 years it does great. and then... it doesn't. (Krakoa , new 52, etc). and often at the end of the initiative- more destructive than stocks- they have to start all over. (10/?)
