I feel bad for the author but I don’t like how tech bros are jumping on this as a gotcha… and pretending that isn’t what they’re doing. The main guy that found the error is going on about how it is “unacceptable.” The book has one error. It makes other points about resources and impacts of mining.

Empire of AI went to print with a very embarrassing but isolated error. The water municipality gave the author a figure for water usage without saying what metric it used. This snowballed into a claim that under-represented how much water Chileans use, and exaggerated how much data centers use.
