I'm sorry to remind everyone of the existence of hte worst magazine in America, but Kansas is literally taking away trans' people's driver's licenses, and the Atlantic has decided to publish a thumbsucker about whether effeminate boys are feeling pressured to transition

You should not be working on the railroad all the live-long day, nor should you be working on the railroad just to pass the time away. You should be working on the railroad for the duration of a reasonable shift, for fair wages.

Nobody reads this but I will not vote for Gavin Newsom because I am a Californian and Gavin Newsom becoming President absolutely guarantees we'll be exactly right back here after four years because nothing will change the system that enabled fascism. Without actual progressive change, we're boned.

Our first β€œdate” was at a BBS convention where neither of us planned on getting together. We rode a child’s train in a park over and over with several friends and then we were just together for almost 30 years

Not to mention that rotisserie = $8-9 but an uncooked chicken is between $13-15

The "most counties" thing has literally only been true since just before the 2024 election. Things are more secure now but they have been insecure since the introduction of paperless voting machines after the 2000 election. That's 23 years worth of lots of paperless voting.

Agreed, but we live in a patriarchy: it's almost always men calling the shots. Not saying women don't abuse directly, they do! But grooming is done generally at the behest of men. I'm no trying to say that women are somehow more virtuous, here, just that men are dominant in our society.

I think this is true for sure, but also any time a group run by men or a man gets this kind of influence and power, they go immediately to Sex Stuff. Look at the history of any cult: almost all of them with a singular powerful male leader start some kind of sex abuse as soon as power is consolidated

Not to mention that $40K would pay for TWO years of my current insurance OOP on the ACA exchange. And they cover everything, including experimental treatments, no questions asked. Why was I forced to switch, again?

I am left wondering what is the point of continuity of care if you like, aren’t going to pay for any of that care, exactly. (Just got a bill for $40K. I don’t even make that in a year, good luck squeezing that out of a PT karaoke host. )

US Prison/death sentences are used as negotiating tactics for plea deals more often than not. "Confess and we'll take death off the table" or "Rat out your co-conspirators and we'll give you less time or immunity" situations.

Robert Kennedy’s aunt or somebody was given a lobotomy and that scarred RFK for his entire life, that’s his villainous backstory for why he hates autistic people. However, the power of love is not going to beat him. He needs to go to prison.

Well, she didn't. What are you doing to make it NOT a war zone where people are gunned down in the streets besides wishing it weren't true, exactly? (Note: general "you" not this particular poster "you", I've seen this sentiment a couple of times today and I'm exhausted of it.)

there are people going out in the freezing cold and literally putting their lives on the line in defense of their communities and the multicultural secular society they believe in. not interested in what some online wannabe dnc consultant type wants to tell me what is and isn't possible now

Pfizer also canceled the one that I was counting on to save me. So I'm pretty much dead in 3/5 years unless a miracle occurs.

Two catty little gay boys who have good reasons for hating each other are currently fighting over my friendship/attn while I am working. They are both messy little bitches and I cannot.

Had my medical insurance force-changed under me in the middle of cancer treatment. I have continuance of care, meaning I can keep seeing my doctor until April, but she's Kaiser, and I'm no longer a member so they won't let me do labs, etc even though they are covered by my new insurance. SCREAMING.

It's the 2nd, and it is only the 2nd because of a little decision called Citizens United, which is, coincidentally, also why the little folk have zero chance of getting any support from the group chat. Our entire government is 1000% beholden to capital and not to the people they claim to represent.

It is either the time I subluxed my rib while BRUSHING MY TEETH or it is the time where I sprained my foot trying to shake a piece of plastic wrapper off it, and I kicked the toilet. But I have tons of these stories because I have Ehlers-Danlos and therefore am very easy to injure.

I see you have already got a lot of validation for this painting but let me add to it: I stopped scrolling to whistle appreciatively at this painting. It is beautiful.

No fuckin' way. I enjoyed every second of this movie, and if you didn't I kind of think you have a piece of coal where your heart should be.

I think the only appropriate response here is "oof". Or y'know, "FUCK", but I was trying to keep it polite for the kiddies.

My favorite part about this is that they are STILL insisting that left-wing challengers can't win despite all the polling saying otherwise. They're somehow still living in the Reagan era and it is maddening, having lived through all the years between the Reagan era and 2025.

Oakland is a lot more like this than SF, even, since it's largely flat and way more walkable as a consequence.
