Person standing behind a yellow front fabric piece for a jacket with a blue pocket on top of it. Person has blue bangs, blue glasses, and an orange shirt on.
Because I'm terrified of my first jacket (#SpindriftJacket) my progress has be GLACIAL but while I wait for the Crabby Seagull fabric to arrive I've actually made a tiny bit of progress. This is the front left:

Tabby cat lying on his back on top of gray sheets looking mildly annoyed to have his photo taken.
That moment when you tune into the praise song you've been singing full blast to your cat without realizing it, "You are a GUY you are a SWEETIE BOY, who is the better boy than you, NOooooo oooooone..."

Wow, Scottish people grow beards and moustaches early!
A noir-toned background image of a rainy city skyscape, birds flying with a backdrop of smeared neon lights, with a detective standing on a rooftop in long coat and hat with one arm raised. Right-justified text on the image reads "open call for novellas, opens: 4.01.26, closes: 4.30.26." The RuadΓ‘n Books logo is centered above the text.
We're opening to novella manuscripts on 4/1/26! We're looking for dark thrillers, crime noir, & dark speculative fictionβif you've got a complete novella (25k-40k words) that fits, we want to hear from you.

Person with blue bangs and a black and white striped shirt with black and white striped glasses. Drawing of a person playing chess hanging on the wall.
What I did recently instead of doomscrolling:
1. Puzzled over describing the taste of a grilled cheese sandwich. I mean, it tastes like... cheese. And bread.
2. Made TINY progress in my scary sewing-first-jacket project.
3. Dropped off glasses in photo to finally have prescription lenses!
Aw, thanks so much - not pictured, my black and white striped pants. (When I'm finished sewing my crabby seagull shirt, I'll wear them together!)
RIGHT!?
Yes. Correct. This.
Will do!
Ooo, I like these, thank you so much. (Not a rant, I'm genuinely bewildered!)
Things you can't control:
If someone will like your story
If an editor will buy your story
If people, even friends/family, will read your story
Things you can control:
If your story shines; if it's the best it can be
If editors have a chance to read it
Keep. Writing.
(What does cheese taste like? It tastes like cheese! Bread? Tastes like bread! HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE TASTES)

It's time.
Colin, the comrade running the shelter-in-place food program I'm working at, told me that this week he's had to turn down asks from schools to supply food directly to their sheltering families. The reason? There's not enough money coming in for that amount of food.
Let's change that.
