Hey I don’t know who needs to hear this but you can just say Deaf. Deaf isn’t a bad word? Why do we jump through hoops to say anything except Deaf or even Disabled?

join local ASL events and get involve- just make sure they’re not explicitly Deaf only events.

Especially when VRI freezes, the tablets aren’t charged, there’s longer wait times, they’re already in use and I have to wait a half hour for it to be available, the internet is spotty, and overall- they’re never high quality or even work. VRI cannot and should not replace in person interpreters.

The medical offices switch from “Let’s make sure to schedule an ASL interpreter because the appointment is in 2 months and the patient literally needs one”
to “We have VRI that’s the same thing- I’m not going to bother.” Needs to end. In person interpreting is not the same as VRI.

When I used to work in early Ed elementary- it got to the point where I had to give every child a daily tape allowance. If you used all your pieces early on- you had to wait until the next day. It solved some class room issues over the obsessive amount of it lol
