At the recent @lortburnspecials.bsky.social sessions, when asked about Railway 200, @garethdennis.uk emphasised the importance of telling the true story of the railways. Thinking about this re Newcastle, the important story our city fails to tell is that of Robert Stephenson.

@garethdennis.uk began by reading from his book about “gadgetbahn” (i.e. a technological solution to a transport problem that won’t work but will block investment in stuff like trains & cycling that do work) - it’s a very useful piece of transport jargon.

Had an absolutely class time at this. Hopefully there'll be many more to come.

This was a great evening, funny, engaging, with lots of tales of trains and other modes of transport, and just the right amount politics.
