For now it’s a mix of both, but the accent is still on exploring; I mostly tried to make the movement entertaining too !

Making a demo for my small city exploration game and scope creep is too real:
Player takes item A to Ms. S and gets a new path
But now they need a reward for this other quest with Ms. S

So if someone really wanted to make some Art nouveau-inspired buildings in Blender but they were also quite bad at modeling in general and could only use basic shapes; where should they start ?

So apart from my little bots I've also tried adding some animations to my trees in order to make scenes look a bit livelier.
They look more alive than windy which was my goal but I think I'm okay with it 🙂

When and mostly how do you get playtesters ?
I’ve heard “early as possible” for the former and “friends and family” for the latter but I'm not sure how I feel about those (answers, obviously)

So I’m being very responsible and the bots definitely needed that little cleaning animation when they see one of the duckling gang’s graffiti.
I hope the players won't use this to mess with them 🙃
Also the graffiti is an expression of my true art skills so don’t make fun of it 🥲

I genuinely think the nicest hyper specific interactions that most players won’t see were made solely because the devs had no idea how much time it’d take them beforehand
On a completely unrelated note, anyone’s got a technique to better evaluate how much time interactions take to dev ? 🥲

Being a responsible game dev means spending time on useful things, and it can be quite hard.
For example, I made those little bots to liven up some of my scenes and now I have to fight the urge to spend 4 days giving them cute interactions with each other and the player 🥲

3 years ago I got in a solo Game Jam and two people commented on my game saying it was super fun
I’ve been chasing that high ever since and am now a good 4 month in my first full game’s dev because of it, so clearly game jams should give you some sort of warning

From the start of my game dev, I’ve been sharing ~30s clips of the game with my brother just to keep him updated, and looking back at them has been a great way to see my progress.
It’s also a great way to pinpoint the exact launch of the last WoW expac, right when the progress stops for a month 🙃
It’s funny being a hobbyist game dev because on the one hand I don’t feel like an actual game dev because it’s not what I do for a living but on the other hand it occupies so much of my mind that it sometimes feel like I am.
I’m in game dev limbo and I think I love it.🤷
They look super nice, you did great ! I'm not very artistically skilled myself and I love those moments when I get to create something I'm genuinely happy with in spite of it, it's the best !
