I think their best chance of success is certainly through individual sketches on Instagram/TikTok/YouTube.
To be honest I think launching anything high profile on Sky One is a bit of a doomed effort but that's another matter.
That's true, but SNL is a much stronger brand in America than it is in the UK. Here, SNL is "isn't that where Wayne's World started? Are they still going?" I think you need at least a couple more rising star type names to sell this and you'd be better calling it something else.
I do think there’s a really interesting comparison with the reaction to her memoir about the failure of her first marriage (where her own behaviour was somewhat similar but she got plaudits for her bravery in talking about it).
So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and they’re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was “your piano is too close to the fireplace, you’ll dry it out” and if that’s not the internet in a nutshell I don’t know what is.

It’s not. Its political results are that of a standard European democracy in 2026, mediated through a worse electoral system.
Need to think more about turnout. Yes Gorton and Denton matched GE 2024 turnout and in that sense is 'high' for a by election *but* 2024 was a very low turnout election and turnout here was below 50% - the national 2019 turnout was over 60%
Still, the nature of this campaign is that a chunk of the Green vote will be a tactical “anyone but Reform” vote, and another will be “send a message to Labour”, so be wary of over interpreting it as positive enthusiasm for the left.
The long term question is whether the Green vote carries over to a GE. The Lib Dems have won plenty of by-elections only to vanish from consideration when the government was at stake. But the Greens should at least do well in the locals.
I don’t see Starmer surviving the local elections- or rather, I think the only reason he’s still in office is to take the flak for them.
If Reform hadn’t been hyped up to win then objectively this would be a good result for them. But their chances of winning always depended on the anti-Reform vote splitting evenly. Polling shows voters who don’t back them feel strongly about keeping them out.
The polling generally had this as too close to call, so that’s an interesting miss. Tactical voters making a late choice for Greens? Unusually high turnout from demographics voting Green?
