I've seen pockets of Old Internet still alive, like web rings connecting personal websites together. I haven't seen a ton of forums still up, but am wondering if search results are causing that blind spot. Either way, I ponder the benefit of web rings; maybe it would be worth it to try one day

For bills, rent, and food, as well as potentially paying for others' help + ad pushes. We don't have that budget, so for now we're focusing on the story and on affording life while we watch the marketing landscape evolve (while using up all our business cards 👀)

Old Internet, and I have been quietly considering what marketing could look like in that sort of space. As it is, if fighting SM is our only option in the end, then money becomes the main issue, both for production value as well as to cover the time needed to produce good marketing. We need to pay

At risk. Production value expectations have skyrocketed due to monetized accounts. Lastly, this landscape has encouraged insincere followers who are only there for Follow for Follow benefits rather than real interest in a friendly relationship or indeed anything we have to say.

I have missed the -

The biggest roadblock is social media, which has started to cannibalize itself. Money & views are king to the algorithm, so often one must pay to be seen. I, among many others, are sick of ads, & avoid SM because of it. SM has also become a landmine of AI scraping, putting copyright 🧵

I don't mind it generally, but the way algorithms either are Pay to Play or punish you for taking a day off make me unwilling to fight with it for long. I think if all I had to do was market, I could have a lot of fun with it!

The website looks completely plausible at first glance. It's got publishing news, reviews, craft pieces, interviews, plus clickable Amazon and Goodreads links on the reviews. Proper stuff, right?

I have! I also am fairly certain I have a 25-26 hour long circadian rhythm, which adds to my complicated relationship with sleep. I do think, however, that lately it's been stress causing me issues, because I've found it hard to go back to sleep in an attempt to get that second phase

Finally sleeping more than 5 hours at a time!! Maybe I am finally getting free of this weird sleep schedule 🥺
