Frank Herbert was a figure in the Earth Day movement. 1970, he addressed a crowd in Philadelphia, advocating a "love affair with our planet." He famously stated, "I refuse to be put in the position of telling my grandchildren, 'Sorry, there's no more world for you. We used it up.'"
