The laudato si centre grounds. Polytunnel in background to left, greenhouse in background middle
Today I've been doing some recording at the Laudato Si Centre, Salford
The best bit was listening to some children talk about how being in creation helps wellbeing and how we all needed to work together
It's not surprising children have such wisdom. It's just a shame we don't listen to them more

It is wrong to stop people fleeing war and persecution from having the ability to come to the UK legally and claim asylum. The Home Office's proposals punish vulnerable populations and are using these communities as scapegoats.
I have written to the Home Secretary to outline my deep concerns.

The Door by Paul Bayes
I took my time with this book because, like the author, it deserves close and thoughtful attention
It is a beautiful, heartfelt book that has much to teach about ministry, being brave, speaking plainly and recognising the journey of understanding, and misunderstanding, that we are all on

Alt: a woman in a pink shirt is riding a purple bike
Six yrs ago I re-learned to ride a bike
It's days like this that make me so grateful to all who encouraged me and helped my confidence in those early days
With little sleep and a mind whirring on many things, the cycle commute today, in the Spring sunshine, did much to boost my wellbeing

Screen with title Sustaining the world.
Outside Luther king centre, blue sky, green grass, tree to right of frame. Building in background
Back at the lovely place that is @lutherkingtheology.bsky.social to teach my module 'Sustaining the World'
While the subject is ecotheology, what a title in the midst of *waves arms* all of this

Film poster for the Testament of Ann Lee
Watched the Testament of Ann Lee yesterday. She has a strong connection with @mancathedral.bsky.social - baptised & married here
Love her characterisation- a formidable woman of faith
Research was lacking on Manchester and the cathedral - or the collegiate church as it was then- which is a shame

God by Andrew Rudd
God
doesn't have to knock
uses the front door key
doesn't check how clean the house is
knows how to use the kettle
and where the spoons go
washes up
is content to sit and chat
about issues of no importance
or just be quiet.
I always remember this poem on this date
My sister in law, who died nine years ago today, introduced me to it. It evokes such a gentle, relatable image of God

The Reith Lectures - Rutger Bregman - Moral Revolution - 2. How to start a moral revolution - BBC Sounds
Rutger Bregman gives the second of his 2025 BBC Reith Lectures called Moral Revolution.
The benefit of train journeys is the opportunity to catch up with podcasts
Fascinating lecture, referencing Thomas Clarkson, whose sermon in @mancathedral.bsky.social propelled Manchester's anti slavery movement (I quote him in my RJS sermon in the AMEN announcement)

Ash Wednesday
She held the dust and created me
She breathed in life
And set me free
From the depths of earth
she wove my frame
One of so many
Yet she knew my name
I failed, I strayed, I went off track
She carried, she guided
She brought me back
One day, into dust I shall once again be
Held in her hands
For eternity
Grace Thomas

Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has passed away at the age of 84. My thoughts are with his family.
I wanted to share this clip from his appearance on Sesame Street in 1971. His important words ring just as true today as they did back then.

'We must not measure greatness from the mansion down, but the manger up
Jesus said that we should not be judged by the bark we wear, but by the fruit we bear
Jesus said that we must measure greatness by how we treat the least of these'
God bless you, Jesse Jackson
