The way Apple has been rolling out the AI features signals to me the company is on a downward spiral. None of their AI features feel user-first. Itβs mostly a race to placate the stock market that they arenβt falling behind on AI.
And, yeah they had invited several folks.
Kiddo went to a birthday party of his pre-school mate. He was the only kid at the party other than the birthday boy. π
Scary! So has the mutation already happened ? Or is this animal to human only ?
Govts have been wanting to backdoor encryption for years now. The security community keeps arguing a backdoor for the US is a backdoor for China too. Now that they see how vulnerable the telecom network is, I hope they realize the importance of encryption.
My new piece for the New York Times, where I make the case that we need a lot more education to deal with disinformation, not more censorship and fact checks

An Israeli soldier who was stationed along the Netzarim Corridor wrote a piece for Haaretz. He details how they don't really know what they're doing there, and just destroy countless homes.

The only rule to remember is βStranger Dangerβ. And that applies to online as much as IRL.
Itβs time to build a new media ecosystem.
"Platforms are not governments. But the similarities between Muskβs actions on Twitter/X and illiberal autocratsβ state policies are too obvious to ignore."
You are raising an important pt that these courses are not a solve for getting women to leadership positions. Which is very true. This shouldnβt absolve orgs of the responsibility to get more women leaders. But Iβm personally not bothered by them offering these though. Except that itβs not enough.
The best benefit is meeting fellow ambitious women and connecting with them. They can become a sounding board for you and your network over time.
5. Money: We rarely buy things for them if they are wants and not needs. If they insist, we try and figure out how they might earn or save money. My daughter now notices the value of money often when we buy anything at the store and seems to be developing an intrinsic sense of value vs price.
4. Kindness: Their teachers often tell me my kids are very empathetic. We practice it at home. Showing concern for each other is how they get their practice. We do donations and help them notice how fortunate they are relative to many others.
3. Boredom: They get boundaries but within that they get a ton of freedom. My kids never say they are bored. They figure out ways to keep themselves entertained even w/o TV/media. They also never get unsupervised media.
2. Chores: An NYTimes article about chores in Mayan households taught us this. We did chores as a family. They pitched in the best they could. Now they consider the chores as just a normal part of family life. Itβs not a punishment nor a reward. Itβs just what you do to live at home.
1. Multi-linguality: We are a tri-lingual household and initially we thought weβd have to pick one language we speak to the kids until a fellow mom told us each parent could just pick one language they exclusively speak to the kids. We did that and our kids picked up both languages.
As an immigrant parent in the US, I had to βlearnβ parenting from scratch. The parenting I grew up with was mildly toxic and I wanted to break the chain for sure. My kids are 4 and 7 and a few lessons we implemented seem to be working out. Sharing those here..
Talking to my cousins who are in grad school in the US now, worried how theyβd navigate the job situation given Trumpβs threats. He may rescind OPT which is essential for new grads to tide over the H1B filing date. And then H1B rejection rate also might go up significantly under his admin
No where except private accounts.
Doesnβt this stance conflict with net neutrality/ Section 230. If X βownsβ all the accounts, then X is liable for all the content from all accounts.
A few thoughts on how to make Bluesky grow
- dense niche networks need to move enmasse. The journalist network, the medical research community etc. if you are in here, bring all your colleagues and community.
- encourage dual posting of breaking news on X and Bluesky.
The thing I realized. When youβre young you think invention requires a high bar of intelligence. The thing you realize later is invention is about risk taking (and some baseline intelligence). What you need most is courage to fail.
Brazil regulators just follow EU regulators, like clock-work. For international companies, looking to predict how the Brazilian compliance situation will evolve, just look to where the EU is headed.
Perplexity is one company thatβs running on hype relative to actual growth. The core product is good, but their user numbers arenβt impressive. Them chasing one trend after the other makes the company seem unfocused.
This idea of following a full list is pretty neat for growing your network.
Running a company like WhatsApp or Facebook, we have to be so thoughtful about equity in the policies. Elon is running X like itβs his pet stooge, personally deciding accounts to turn off. Why are there no checks and balances there ?
Though I do hope it is on the decline.
