Just up on the Telegraph, a thorough and thoughtful piece about the wrongheaded policy changes at WAC. Thanks to Kate Murphy, @illuminations.bsky.social, @unamccormack.bsky.social and @marklewisohn.bsky.social for giving up their time. Gift link here

"Too often, policies are justified not by whether they work, but by whether they sound punitive enough to satisfy an increasingly volatile media ecosystem. People seeking safety are framed as a problem to be managed, rather than lives to be protected"

Why is support for the @greenparty.org.uk growing among British Jews and how do we understand this? A letter by @dmf101.bsky.social, @bengidley.bsky.social and me for the Guardian. 1/5
Not everyone is unhappy about the Government's descent into anti-refugee politics
Sort of a weird headline for the Guardian given that it’s published in a European country where neither of these things are actually “normal”
Everyone needs a Nick Mohammed in their lives, what a great guy #traitors #celebritytraitors

How was the year 2000 imagined in 1900? A colleague sent this link to a collection of past futures images via an exhibition she visited. The first one of the edtech book grinder and automated learning system remains relevant as ever! publicdomainreview.org/collection/a...
Glad to finally have a copy of my own of 'After The Last Sky' (Edward Said & Jean Mohr), after first borrowing it from the library in July 2023 📚 🇵🇸 Always had a soft spot too for the final picture in the book, 'the photographer photographed'.
We’re going to make migrants read Ian McEwan? Now that’s a hostile environment.
The idea that being a refugee is somehow a “golden ticket” is genuinely awful. These are people who the government have recognised are in need of protection. Do they think people chose that? That that’s what people wanted?

The idea that digital ID cards will stop people working in the shadow economy and thus reduce small boat crossings is baffling
The very nature of the shadow economy (the only way asylum seekers can find work) is employers don’t check documents.. That would obviously continue with ID cards
What on Earth is this? An "in depth" BBC article about free speech in the UK that only cites examples of right-wing/ 'anti-woke' speech being suppressed. How can you mention Lucy Connolly but completely ignore Palestine Action / Just Stop Oil? Gob-smacking. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
