This leads to another filk connection: the font designer for London and Chicago was Susan Kare, sister of the physicist, sf fan, and filker Jordin Kare. filk.fandom.com/wiki/Jordin_...
Made in 1986, me and friends identified the fonts as the blackletter London, the script Venice, and the sanserif Chicago, which all were included with the original Macintosh.
Today we offer a typographical blast from the past, with The Kha-Khan's Lament by Yang the Nauseating (aka later the sf and fantasy author Robert Asprin) filk.fandom.com/wiki/The_Kha...
It is listed on the short side of the tape cover.
"Side Three
There isn't one. This is a single cassette, even if it is 68 minutes long. (I'll bet you've never seen a C-70 cassette before, he?) Now get back up there in the real credits where you belong."
Filk is a genre which famously does not take itself too seriously, but we seldom encounter jokes on the j-cards of the cassettes. "In Space, No One Can Hear You Sing" by the L.A. Filkharmonics is an exception with their side three. filk.fandom.com/wiki/In_Spac...
And there should be a song about it…
A shoutout from the filkwiki to Eli Goldberg and Prometheus Music. He has provided the filkwiki with lots and lots and lots of scans of J-cards from old and rare tapes. Many more will be available over the coming days! www.prometheus-music.com

Many filkers are avid role players, and it has resulted not only in several songs—Lee Gold's You Bash the Balrog is a classic such—but also in several albums and music vidoes. Dr. Mary Crowell is notable for not one but two albums and two fabulous music videos! @frwiki.bsky.social
The original tape is long out of print, but you can still listen to or buy it on Spotify or Bandcamp. tomsmith.bandcamp.com/track/a-boy-...
What does the Muppets and filk have in common? Plenty! "A Boy and His Frog" was written by Tom Smith after Jim Henson's death and published on his first album, "Who Let Him in Here?"
Bears thinking about. Right now it's mentioned on the "Discover filk" page on the filkwiki, and I have sent in a proposal to our hosting company on the ability to use its domain as a bluesky handle.
