Hey #OttBike. Tomorrow!
Iβll speculate. During the pandemic, people rode their bikes locally like they were the next best thing because it was easiest thing they could do besides walking. As things got better they realized how dangerous it was beyond their 2 km radius.. & drove to continue to be the problem. #LastGhostBike
π€¨ Despite cyclingβs pandemic-era boom, Pedal Poll data show no sustained increase in cycling rates over time. Why? We could all speculate as to the answers, but more research here is needed.
#PedalPollSondoVelo took place over four two-hour shifts on weekdays and one weekend shift at count locations across Canada. For some locations we now have highly comparable count data from multiple years.

Hey Ottawa! Take note!

Problem #1, people living too far from work. Thatβs not an easy one to tackle. Problem #2, a failed transportation system, look at Ottawa. Problem #3, discriminating anybody that chooses to not drive. Problem #4 cities funding private vehicle use because it buys votes.
Taking it easy in Vancouver for a few days.
Two people crossing a sidewalk while a metallic silver car is waiting. A tactile black line runs to the centre of the sidewalk. Rather than paint, white and black granite cobble stones are used. The cross walk is zebra style. At the other end, several 3-4 story buildings are visible.
Now that is a robust crosswalk #ottbike #ottwalk on a main street in #Aveiro, #Portugal
That's pretty awesome Cassie!

Today I have transported 1) a giddy child 2) an uncertain cat 3) a suitcase 4) a bottle of Prosecco and 5) a birthday cake by cargo bike.
My family was doing a reno and had temporarily moved to a place without bike storage. We are so happy to be back home and back to our bikes π

My fave: βcyclists donβt pay taxes, get off the roadβ
I too have this dream. And now that i just crossed Canada on my bicycle, I'll return to Quebec to finish my Masters in Urban Planning and continue to build this dream. But people need to stop being so lazy and speak up to their politicians, businesses and neighbour and get action going!

The critical mass has been moved to 2:30. Sorry for the confusion
oh, there's a few good ones that come to mind. One in Ottawa that i'll share a picture of. But i just arrived in Maple Ridge BC after crossing the country and tomorrow i've organized a critical mass. talk soon
Just arrived in Maple Ridge. Looking forward to the critical mass tomorrow!
A white truck parked on the road and sidewalk.
I dream that one day our sidewalks will be as wide as our trucks.
Pardon?

And I can tell you mine. I just finished cycling across the country from Thunder Bay. Iβm leaving Hope BC today for my last 150 km that will end up in Maple Ridge. Do I have stories to tell.
Tomorrow, I am planning a critical mass ride into downtown Vancouver. I hope itβs a huge one.
People need to be reminded that although we call them bike lanes, there is a growing trend for more and more of other types of rolling users on them. In particular people with mobility limitations, and that is very important, especially when sidewalks are in disarray or poorly designed
Mine almost broke yesterday in BC as my derailleur broke in 2. Had to convert my ride into a single speed for my last 200 km into Vancouver. At least today itβll be 7.
Looking forward to being back in MontrΓ©al and QuΓ©bec soon to tell my tales.
Please follow me back.
@bikeviewca.bsky.social hey Ken. Thanks for the follow and all that you do for cycling safety.
