The paper shows how unclear definitions of small-scale fisheries in RFMOs create governance gaps, and proposes new a classification to support fairer fisheries management.

New research on EU fishing access agreements 📄

Since the late 1970s, these agreements have shaped EU fishing in developing coastal States. Over time, they’ve narrowed towards tuna fisheries, with public subsidies concentrated in a small part of the fleet.

Delegates reconvened at UN Headquarters to pave the way for entry into force of the BBNJ Agreement. It was a productive two weeks — with experts from the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security contributing on several delegations.

👏 After Thailand🇹🇭, Djibouti 🇩🇯 adds its signature to the #BBNJ Treaty.

🎊 So far, 115 countries have now officially committed to its ratification!
