Seeing this garbage held out as “good design” because it has large sans serif type is farcical. It’s an insult to designers, it’s an insult to people who build with thought and care, and it’s an insult to your intelligence as a consumer of websites.
If this is what they’re hoping to replace USWDS with, the good news is that it’s going to be literally impossible for almost every .gov site to do that, even if they want to.
Accessibility. There are color contrast issues all over this site. Low vision users will struggle. One of the main reasons to use a design system is having a color palette you know will always work.
What’s the point of having a design system most people can’t use? By contrast, USWDS is HTML, CSS, and a little JS. It works everywhere and in every tech stack.
