A table bearing a nearly-full bottle of Signatory Vintage Linkwood 2012 whisky, and a glass with a double Scotch poured into it
Treated myself to a bottle of Linkwood single malt Scotch. Gosh, this is nice.
It's a hoot!
Dark nighttime photo of a bright full moon shining through the clouds above a woodland in silhouette
The owls were out, around our way! I was up early and heard them hooting. Never actually seen one, but the locals say that little owls (Athene noctua) are common in the woods here.
Independent headline: "Prehistoric tools found in China rewrite story of human evolution"
Pens, were they?
I made the mistake of scoffing some leftover Christmas fudge before drinking my coffee. Now the coffee tastes like dirt.
Ryan Cooglerβs blues-steeped vampire epic βSinnersβ led all films with 16 nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, setting a record for the most in Oscar history.
π‘π‘π‘ Very upset by someone just posting spoilers for the Transformers movies. Apparently these cars are actually robots! π‘π‘π‘
I was equally caught out by The China Syndrome
I'm not trying to be weird, but the reason I watch Emily in Paris is that she's in Paris. Can they please stop going to other countries? Thank you π«π·
IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!
So excited to share this show with you all. I am so grateful for the support and encouragement from so many people to get this off the ground π
If you need a spot of light-heartedness in your day, this is the show for you! β¨
Please have a listen and please share!
That scene was the best thing on the big screen in 2025. Absolutely phenomenal
Your green-tinted spectacles this time doΒ notΒ deceive you! Adrian Tchaikovsky @aptshadow.bsky.social returns as a contributor for the anthology Omniboz: Tales from the Land of Oz, based on L. Frank Baumβs Oz books! @jendiagammon.bsky.social and @erniechiara.com co-edit.

A logo is shaped like vampire fangs. The text reads Horror Not Hate
Iβm so stoked that my original story Shifted is being published as part of this comic anthology, with artwork by Jody James Brenton. Seeing a piece of a story thatβs only lived in my head and on the page for over a decade come to life to aid a dear cause was mind blowing! bit.ly/HorrorNotHate
GODFATHER FROM HELL has risen from the grave!
Earlier this year, we had to make the difficult decision to stop individual issues of our infernal neo-noir thriller but in 2026, @thevaultcomics.bsky.social will publish the entire story as an OGN with a new cover by @piusbak.bsky.social (1/3)
Trek would be the ideal choice for any and all of us, so I think that's ideal. But Matt and I are also games people (Matt launched PC Gamer mag back in the day too, and I'm a lifelong gamer currently running Pocket Gamer) so we can do either/both.
I'm always up for a podcast chat, and I'm sure Matt (and any of the other SFX editors) would be happy to as well with a bit of notice - please send me a DM when you fancy it, and we can figure out details.
That's commitment - 400 mags! You'll need your floors reinforced. We had launch editor Matt Bielby on our podcast (sadly now on hiatus) a few years ago, and I recall we talked about the Tank Girl choice then.
The cover of SFX magazine issue 400 featuring a photograph of six members of the Starfleet Academy cast.
Congrats to everyone at @sfxmagazine.bsky.social for publishing its 400th issue!
Thanks to @ianberriman.bsky.social and the team, Iβve penned an article for this milestone issue (Star Trek-related, back page).
Hereβs to the next 30 years of top-tier science fiction and fantasy reporting.
Hello Womble! I'm reading Mistletoe by Alison Littlewood, which seems appropriate for the time of year.
Bonus: I haven't read as much in 2025 as in previous years, but one fantasy novel that stood out is Seven Recipes for Revolution, the debut novel by Ryan Rose.
A thought for the day.
Morning Womble. I'm currently reading Open Season by Jonathan Kellerman (love a bit of LA psychological crime), and Broken Ground (the Uncertain Stories anthology), and the latest issue of SFX (another Stranger Things cover).
Screenshot of a social media post by @ProducerDaveFM in which he mocks the ticket pricing structure of British trains
Conversation at London ticket counter yesterday:
HIM: Itβs peak time. The next off-peak train is in three hours. Travelling sooner will cost you an extra Β£25 peak upgrade.
ME: So itβs a Β£25 fare add-on nowβ¦ or three hours in a pub?!
HIM: ...I guarantee you will spend more than Β£25 in a pub here.
A still from Iron Man 3 featuring Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark in front of a Christmas tree
Time to rewatch that heartwarming Christmas classic - Iron Man 3.
A right-click dialogue box from macOS showing the New Folder with Selection option
Iβve got a MacBook, a Windows PC and a little Linux box on my desk, and I use all three pretty happily. Thereβs one tiny macOS feature I still miss every single time Iβm on Windows: selecting a bunch of files and instantly creating a new folder with them inside. How has Microsoft never solved this?

A hand holding an old boxed copy of Sim City 2000 for the PC
Flashback! My archaeology continues. The first boxed game I got for my first Windows PC at home. I'd played the original SimCity on the IBM computers at college, but SimCity 2000 was new then (it came out in December 1993) and I became absolutely obsessed with it for years.
