i have taken steps to rectifying this lull. i bought a bike last month and have been riding it at least a mile at least twice a week for the last 3 weeks. this has improved my mood significantly. i am in the mood to stream again!

this lull in mood is familial in nature. it's not exactly a secret that i don't have a particularly great relationship with my family.

ok, so, i should probably explain things

i have not streamed since june. why? well, there's the obvious (i went to a con for a few days), but then when coming home my mood crashed pretty badly and i had pretty awful executive dysfunction that made it hard for me to take proper care of myself

also, twitch not planning on running ICE ads does not preclude them from doing so in the future. if they do, if your community has a lotta immigrants to the US in it i'd suggest looking for alternative revenue sources or stream platforms, or both.

while no ICE ads are currently being run on twitch, and twitch has no plans on running ICE ads, hearing that an immigrant streamer was dehumanized by an ad they can't consent to being shown on their channel will highlight everything wrong with twitch.

y'know i really hope that twitch does not take any money from ICE/DHS

i have many friends who are immigrants to the US and know a few streamers who are immigrants to the US. i do not want to inadvertently dehumanize them for the "crime" of immigration through an ad running without my consent.

I hope so too. It's shameful enough that we don't have any say in what ads can appear on our channels, just the length of ad breaks and frequency. I do not want to run the risk of inadvertently dehumanizing immigrant viewers of my stream. Military, gambling and crypto/AI ads are bad enough as is.

believe me when i say that i do not want ICE/US military, harry potter, prageru, disney, cryptocurrency, gambling or sports betting ads on my channel. if i could, i would block every single one of those advertisers from my channel. but twitch doesn't give streamers the tools to do so. it's so ass.

ads are also unskippable and the only way to not see them as a viewer is to subscribe to the channel or subscribe to twitch prime.

the way how ads work on twitch is actively detrimental to the viewer experience and it's genuinely stupid how the only way to not see them is paying up

with regards to ads on twitch, it's honestly a huge issue with the viewer experience that streamers have no choice in what ads can be ran on their channels. no categories, no banned advertisers, just frequency and length of ad breaks, and you need a certain frequency and length to disable prerolls.

when i stream again (it's been a bit, eheh) i'll ask people to tell me if they see ICE ads on my channel, and if so i'll direct people towards my ko-fi if they wish to financially support me instead. i've only ever made a grand total of $100 on twitch Once anyway lol

Are you going to damn an immigrant streamer for inadvertently having an ICE ad run on their stream? There's already been cases of PragerU ads running on queer streamers' channels because we don't have the luxury to choose Twitch ads, "ICE ad on an immigrant streamer's channel" is gonna happen.

There's a difference between an ad read, something the streamer chooses, and a Twitch ad, something we can't choose. If we're talking about a streamer choosing to take money from ICE for an ad read, then I agree. Otherwise, take your performative bullshit back to Twitter.

Report the ads for being offensive. Oppose the ads running on Twitch in the first place on UserVoice. Do something more productive than performative outrage I'd quite frankly expect from a liberal shitheel rather than a leftist and shoot the wrong messengers.

Again. A Twitch-run ad being run on a streamer's channel doesn't equal endorsement. Quite frankly, I personally would rather see ICE and every other remaining aspect of the W Bush admin destroyed. We didn't need it before, and 22 years later we still don't.

So fuck Twitch streamers then? The only ads we can consent to being shown on our streams are ad reads from sponsors we choose ourselves, we *have* to show ads inserted by Twitch even if they're of something we abhor, like ICE. A Twitch-run ad doesn't equal endorsement.
