Dr. Herman shaped decades of groundbreaking research on cetaceans. In his honor, the Louis M. Herman Research Scholarship supports innovative research that advances our understanding of:
π¬ Cetacean cognition & sensory perception (lab or field)β¨π Humpback whale behavioral ecology or communication
β¨ 2 WEEKS LEFT TO APPLY! β¨ The Louis M. Herman Research Scholarship honors the extraordinary legacy of Louis M. Herman, a pioneer in dolphin cognition and humpback whale behavioral ecology.
Uko is internationally known for illustrating all marine mammal species in Marine Mammals of the World: A Comprehensive Guide to Their Identification, and his work appears in scientific journals, museums, and major publications worldwide.
In this fascinating keynote, Uko will explore how our understanding of whales evolved, from ancient naturalists and ship surgeons to modern molecular biologists. Who were the pioneers of cetology? How did we study whales before? And how did women begin shaping the field in the twentieth century?
