Regarding the invalid handle account:

There are two CN accounts. One is old and likely owned by Kyra. The other is owned by Buzzfeed. The old account used to have the Buzzfeed domain but they moved it to the new one.

She posted it to both and they have no control over hers.

The way custom handles work is you create a bsky.social handle, then change it to your own domain with some stuff set up to show you own it. If that fails you see invalid handle.
So the old account was Kyra’s, and it temporarily had the Buzzfeed handle, then it was moved to one they control.

It is but I think this was posted to two accounts. One has a buzzfeed dot com handle and it was deleted from that one. The other has invalid handle, which makes me think it used to have the official handle, but is not under buzzfeed’s control, so they can’t take it down.

Oh ok… the account this was posted to hasn’t been used in months.

Maybe Kyra posted it here because Buzzfeed can’t delete posts from this one?

It’s right here. The “invalid handle” is interesting because that would imply Buzzfeed removed the verification stuff.

There is still a @chiknnuggit.buzzfeed.com but that appears to be a different account.

I’ve done it with an iPhone too.

It is *supposed* to be fine, but if you have any kind of damage (that might not be as obvious as a cracked screen or back) you’ll get water ingress.

Also, these things are just glued together, and when that glue gets hot it gets too soft. Water can get past it.

I bet you there is some dumb protocol limitation where if you block them you can’t see the labels they apply… and that breaks adult content filtering or something else that would be a big deal to T&S.

I do not understand why this is even a thing. You shouldn’t be able to block moderation via the app, but even if you mess with your PDS or it ends up on a blocklist you use it shouldn’t matter.

Moderation is like root. Even if you block them, they should still be able to see and label your posts.

Western written languages don’t really have the concept of “a unique symbol per idea” but eastern languages do, and guess where emojis were first used?

The term emoji is Japanese.

It is a symbolic representation of an idea. Or a symbol for short.

It represents something definite, it’s codified by a standard, and how it appears may vary by platform but the meaning is the same.

Oh no I mean blatant corruption. Like the leadership is heavily invested in the corporations they are supposed to be protecting the employees of, but only the leaders are. Not a co-op where the workers own it too.

And then you get into the varying definitions of public vs. private.

Public vs private company is not the same as public vs private property. Public companies are not owned by everyone, but by investors.

They are only “public“ in that anyone can buy stock in them.
