Thank you!!!!!
Thank you!!!!!
Thanks, Tracy!! And sometimes I am a clear example of what NOT to do π. So glad I got to be your TA way back when, and love what we get to do together now!
Thank you, and a million percent right back at you!!
And some of my favorite people in life are my colleagues, near and far. My writing group of the best millennial women fluids profs, my EFM colleagues, NRL Stennis crew, IH/CEAMA labs in Spain⦠these people are what makes this job so fun and stimulating (and simply bearable, at the tough times!!)
Prof. Dalrymple literally changed the direction of my life by inviting me to do research as an undergrad and sending me to Granada. My PhD advisor Todd understood my dreams and nourished them at every step, letting me be βme,β which can be a lot π . Best PhD advisor i could have asked for
Friends, exciting news, amidst the collapse of academia and science as we know itβ¦ I GOT TENURE!! ππ I have a lot of thoughts that Iβll share one day. But for now, feeling a ton of gratitude to have many great role models and fantastic human beings that I get to be surrounded by daily.
We will slowly win the battle with better papers (even if they wonβt get cited). You can help by not rewarding them with invites talks and awards, mmmkay??
Annual reminder (at APS-DFD) how many men are so threatened by Girls-Who-Know-Things that we (women) do not get appropriately cited/credited, especially when our ideas are blatantly stolen. Ladies, find your support group and remember itβs not you, itβs them. 1/
A bad day with the laser on (52-y/o flume power issues and turbidity issues due to rust) is still not a total loss, right?
The LBJ School at UT-Austin has open searches for a health and education economist. The deadline is Nov 17. It's a great place to work. Please apply and share!

Mentoring. Which is very open ended and has many different contexts. But things like helping people find their path, develop their own confidence, become better scientists, communicators, etc. That is where I see huge potential impact and joy
Beautiful (and natural) seeding particles for SPIV in the outdoor flume today!
One thing nobody preps you for when submitting for tenure is the total emotional burnout afterwards. Package was due incrementally throughout the summer. First vote is complete, and Iβm still doing minor edits when our awesome admins find typos. I am proud of my work but my brain is toast π€
Oooohhhh clever! Every year my parents bought some sort of new pitting device, and we always went back to the paper clips. Never tried chopsticks - sounds brilliant!
That should be a new rule for all department heads⦠annual sour cherry delivery to all faculty. I grew up with sour cherry trees and miss them so much. Hours sitting around the table pitting them with paper clips, nails stained black, but then so much deliciousness ensued!
Can I be added please? My lab does experimental turbulence, stratified mixing, sediment transport, ice melting, all the good stuff of environmental fluid mechanics. Thank you!!
Is there something like Rent the Runway for men you could try? Taelor? Or, start a new trend of wearing suits at AGU so you can wear it more!!
Someone you know reaaaalllly wants a set of ramen bowls (and loves your glazes), if youβre ever willing to part with them!
Do you still have your Etsy shop? Mind sharing the name if so?
Come be my colleague! UNH is hiring a mid-career Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering! jobs.usnh.edu/postings/58718
I would fully support that!!!! Gotta see how they navigate the flow - and hope that theyβre having fun in their personal jacuzzi ππ
Super fun (and super βcritical!β) day playing in the outdoor flume! I donβt have a strong background in open channel flow, but learned a ton (with the JETlab grad students) building and destroying dams, gates, etc along the channel, trying to maximize flow speed while maintaining 6β water depth. π
π paper alert from the JETlab (and co-author Margaret Byron!) Awesome review paper regarding lab-generated zero mean flow homogeneous isotropic turbulence - enjoy!! www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
Showing the new grad students PIV and lasers for the first time never gets old - the Oohs and Ahhs are priceless! Joyous advisor moments.
En route to DC for APS-DFD!!! Canβt wait to see (most of) my fave fluid mechanicians!
I spent the summer there in 2022 and had the BEST time! Great group of people and a wonderful lab! Wonβt turn you in for taking that photo π
I have spent the entire afternoon coding (from scratch) to help analyze my studentβs awesome data. My brain is so out of practiceβ¦ but loving the challenge. Hashtagβ¦ PI skillz.
Also I hope Gumbo and Seeley got to make little paw prints in it before it fully dried??? And that you donβt regret it if you didnβt do that π or regret if you DID do it and now they have concrete in their pawsβ¦
I mean normally I love trees, shade, and natural ground. But it just did not work back there! And the tree was very scary for your house. Now we wait to see whether it becomes a swanky lounge/entertainment space, or extended workshop / boat storage. Or all of the above!
