At a guess probably part of why you find punk musically dull especially on album is that like... really often it *is* simple on purpose, youre right. it's music meant to be listened with your body and legs and heart, through the vibrations in the floor and the air, not really with the brain first.
yeah if i'm being SPECIFIC then i used to be obssessed as hell with dragonforce in particular and they're the hardest to give leeway too, lol
but just from following you, I realize I'm probably also not being fair to the genre to think this, with how varied it is - it's just something I grew out of in a worse time in my life, so it keeps the associations of that dumber time. but certain music linked to immaturity is a hard thing to shake.
its so interesting to read this because to me that "high schooler genre" that one grows out of is metal. like, being in band classes and still thinking about music entirely as a technical skill, but then you get out of your hometown and out of your shell and discover more emotional life experiences.
these ppl always follow up about how Economy matters most with swing voters, too. but i've lived around supposed swing voter types my entire life, and most people will give you benefit of the doubt on *any* issue if they just get the impression that you're willing to speak plainly off the cuff.
like, to be clear they should still leave regardless. but loads of that journo class begrudgingly joined in the first place cuz their jobs made them, and with no consciousness that there was already an online culture created by loads of other ppl who've been jumping between websites our whole lives.
Extremely true, but this also helps it make more sense that a lot of the people who *most* refuse to leave are the ones who got started by using it to represent their professional selves & career profiles, and have never had the idea of being whoever they want enter the picture.
