Their bill doesn’t even make ICE follow the same rules that as local police officers.

So by tweaking that they can impact races less impacted by gerrymandering like Senate and Presidential elections. (Since gerrymandering is about drawing voting district lines, it mostly impacts the House at State and Federal levels).

A lot of laws are written in such a way as they could be enforced to the maximum or not, if they are in what they call a blue district they will be more strict about who can vote and if it's a red district they can be less strict.

Yes Trump was a winner among Hispanic voters before, but I don't know if that would hold up now after all the stuff with ICE and Bad Bunny.

And the GOP puts more time and effort into voter manipulation as a whole, such as gerrymandering.

So these new measures the MAGA politicians are pushing are NOT about security or integrity of elections, it's about more and more federal control and restrictions over US Citizens.

In the real world, the best security we have for our elections is the registration polls (lists), where they track who is eligible to vote (who is registered) and who has voted in each election. If you vote more than once, you're flagged. If you are found to be ineligible, they find and charge you.

They are doing their best to restrict the TYPE of id required more and more, because they know the more restrictions they add, the more hoops people have to go through, the fewer people will vote and the more people they can selectivily keep from voting.

Currently, you can go to the Driver's License office and get an ID card for the purpose of voting, at no charge.

They only charge you for a full DL that allows you to drive, if you don't get that you can just get the ID for free. And they already make you prove your identity.
