SPEEDRUNNER [light blue fill, black stroke, pixel text] PLAYS ROM HACK [light red fill, white stroke, pixel text] Screenshot of level 1-10 of Hotter Fire 'N Freezing Ice by ThemThelves, from my playthrough.
"Fire 'N Ice Speedrunner Plays the Shortest FNI ROM Hack" comes out tomorrow!
Crazy turnaround time, coming out 3 days after my last video; recorded yesterday, edited today, and uploaded tomorrow.
so even though I said it would be out within a week or two I finished editing it all in one day so it'll be out tomorrow!
I'll set a precedent of all edited videos < 20 minutes I add captions to, but > 20 minute videos I won't since that's too much of a time commitment; it'd take days to do.
says it'll take an hour to render so that'll definitely make it so I can't upload it until tomorrow
Finished editing the Hotter Fire 'N Freezing Ice video, it's 32 minutes and 46 seconds long! Will likely post tomorrow.
thumbnail shouldn't be too long but CC will take a while to do
10/13 levels edited, 23 edited minutes of video, 24 minutes of VOD left to edit. finishing editing a whole video in one day is crazy, it'll definitely happen at this point. video comes out tomorrow or Saturday?
37 minutes left to edit, about 9.5 levels edited (level 10 took me a while to beat)
new HFNFI progress thread ig, 9/13 levels edited, sixteen minutes of edited content so far. 48 minutes of gameplay left to edit down. Maybe finish editing today???? Crazy good upload schedule if so
making lots of progress on the Hotter Fire 'N Freezing Ice video, five out of thirteen levels edited in a couple hours.
was planning to do an any% run before dinner but I failed by trying to do 2-10 too fast, so I'll edit instead. May or may not do more any% attempts later today
doing this already shortened the vod to an hour and 21 minutes, so my job is just adding some VO to explain things better + more concisely for intro, outro, and talking about the crashes in world 2, as well as cutting out time where nothing important is said and I'm redoing parts already shown.
will only cover the 13 levels that I completed in the edited video, not the unfinished levels / levels that crash the game. So all of world 1, 2-6, 4-1, and 4-2.
If anyone wants to watch the VOD, here it is: youtu.be/5-I4II4AqtU The edited video will likely be out in a week or two from now if I work on it consistently.
Just finished recording my playthrough of (the demo of) Hotter Fire 'N Freezing Ice by ThemThelves to edit down into a main channel video, will post the VOD soon and edit it down from the 2ish hours it was to probably 15-30 minutes.
or devs thinking Japanese fans would want a more convenient experience with the ability to undo and US fans would not for some reason??
my best guess is because of no ability to save because of lacking internal battery or whatever, for some reason undoing counts under saving like how saving files and levels needs the save battery.
dunno, just like making Fire 'N Ice more popular since it's an awesome game that's super niche, and YouTube Studio is designed around making creators want to get views so I end up wanting to get views
no undo is just SnK2, if it was PAL as well I'd have had it in the section of things where FNI is the outlier (by not having undo), not SnK2 outlier (by having undo)
those views / subs you mean? Idk just like entertain the people that enjoy Fire 'N Ice or smth. I'm not gonna sell an online course or nfts or some BS just from getting a tiny following, and I wouldn't do that even if I had hundreds of millions of viewers. idrk know what you're asking
The only rule is no manual undoing (so don't undo if you die in a level, likely due to the auto-undoing messing you up, and wait at most 3 seconds if the auto-undo makes you do a mistake).
Below is an example of undoing every second, way too often to be fun, but you get the idea of how it works.
I also just tested the undoing every 3 seconds in Fire 'N Ice (the Japanese version since that's the only one you can undo in) and 3 seconds seems to be a good balance where it's hard and fun, not too frustrating like 1-2 seconds or easy like 5+ seconds.
I know that but as I'm a super small channel right now it means a lot to me. The Fire 'N Ice niche is quite small so I don't expect more than a couple thousand subscribers (or more than a couple thousand views per video) once I've been making videos for a while and get popular.

made some rules and spaces for Fire 'N Ice Bingo/Lockout if anyone's interested in playing it. At some point I'll make videos on playing this against other Fire 'N Ice speedrunners but it's not in the next 3 videos I have planned.
ใฝใญใขใณใฎ้ต๏ผ (NES) Bonus Levels Speedrun: 42:53.201 (Former World Record) got 200 views (120 more than usual) and 12 watch hours (8 more than usual) in 181 days and 15 hours. Screenshot of the analytics page of this video.
my first longform to get 200 views, although it's a bit annoying that it's a speedrun on the main channel that no longer uploads speedruns instead of a second channel run or a main channel edited video.
Will record the next edited video tomorrow most likely, and it'll probably come out mid-March.
The fifth video I'm planning to make (or the one I'll make after 2 more videos, a ROM Hack playthrough and another challenge run) is a world record progression video on specifically level 6-10 of Fire 'N Ice, since it has had dozens of routes adopted over the years that go faster and faster.
huh, had you never looked into the beta or other regional versions of Fire 'N Ice before? I know about two thirds of the differences weren't covered on TCRF and a good amount of them weren't ever covered online (that I could find), but I expected most Fire 'N Ice fans to know at least one.
Thanks, I also like seeing video game history like that, although I generally just see world record progression videos instead of other ones covering video game history.
e.g. If someone wants to speedrun another version but doesn't know the differences, they watch this to decide if it's unique enough for them to want to run.
