I am so darn lucky! I feared crickets, I feared an empty store, but friends and family showed up and wow, what a day.
It was truly special and I am grateful!
I don't really like that Austen Beeman gave my book a 2 star rating, but I appreciate the effort that went into the review, and that he read it carefully and honestly.

May we all find the courage to speak up with fearlessness and integrity against the voices who threaten, who intimidate, who challenge right with their versions of wrong.
Ira Wells, wins Freedom to Read Award!!
When Samira Mohyeddin won the Ken Filkow Prize, Wells said, her "work is typified by fearlessness, integrity, and a willingness to speak out directly against injustice, wherever she finds it."

A review with the picture of the book cover for BREATHING IS HOW SOME PEOPLE STAY ALIVE by Alison Gadsby. Two quotes: 1: "I'm not even sure how to review this book" and 2: βIt is interesting, disturbing, sometimes funny, and frequently made me gasp...What I like about this book was that the stories never dove too deep, which was good because, like I said some were very disturbing....I would recommend this book to people who like dystopian short stories.β -Jennifer K., NetGalley Reviewer
Everyone says to not read reviews, but I do.
Maybe it's first book shit and I'll get over it, but I am still blown away that people are reading words in a book that I wrote. I don't even care if they hate it (I've hated plenty of books, but still know they're worth something to someone).
You coming?
I cut and coloured my own hair and while I don't totally hate it, be sure to pretend you don't notice, avert your gaze.

Thanks Leslie. It means so much just to know people are reading, never mind when a review like this comes in. I don't know how all those award winning, well-praised, authors wake up every day, and just walk around with their feet on the ground.
Thank you!!!
I honestly don't know what to say. This feels surreal and a slap to my own face because when anyone asks, I say these stories are weird. Why? Because I am afraid that people won't see the pain for what it is. Thank you Joy!
Joy! I nearly burst, clenching my throat, tears, reading this. Thank you for feeling the pained heart and traumatised souls of my characters. It means so much. π
