You can be a leader in artificial intelligence by refusing to use it.

I find it sad that Sen. Tommy Tuberville's social media screen name is "Coach Tommy Tuberville."

From Bodysnatchers to the Borg and Beyond Given the association of misfortune with this day, Friday the 13th, I guess you could attribute it to the (bad) luck of the draw that, for the second month in a row, it’s my day up. And this time I…

My monthly contribution to Writer Unboxed compares the themes of such sci-fi classics as Invasion of the Bodysnatchers and Star Trek: The Next Generation to our current challenges with AI -- specifically, to more deeply reflect on what it means to be human.

Make a future when AI is like Betamax. Get off my lawn and look that up.

Please don't make a future when we'll need AI like we need water, fuel, and electricity.

I've tried designing shirts and hats. I was never fully satisfied w/ how they turned out. Currently my poetry site uses a neon sign graphic, which I bet would print problematically.

Bah. I'm here to showcase poetry, not sell merch.

β€œAI will one day be a utility, like water and electricity.”

Cool, then let’s regulate the shit out of it at the state and local level to make sure it’s clean and safe.

Caps are better canvases for designs. You don't need to wash them as often as shirts, but the typical snapback trucker hats are foam inked w/ designs. Embroidered designs are pricier but hands-down better.

Graphic tees are some of the worst. The more you wear them, the more the graphic fades or flakes away. If the design is caked on, the spot where it is clings to you. I prefer blank tees.

Bonus: I don't have to defend designs as I'm not a human billboard for them.

Do what you have to do! Times are tough! But also ask yourself, do I need a plastic shirt with corgis wearing sunglasses? Why am I letting a machine guzzle water to make this picture? Can I get the book from the library? Do I need more garbage?

Yes, there's no ethical consumption under capitalism. That doesn't mean you can use it as a excuse when someone rightfully calls you out for using AI/Amazon/plastic crap on TEMU/fast fashion.

Artificial intelligence will never be real. Relying on it for real tasks is like trying to pay for real goods w/ play money.

13.03.2026 11:42 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

What I find interesting about this line is that it’s an admission in order for this to happen, they need you to lose your ordinary intelligence that you already have.

This is why they want to get into schools. They want kids to lose basic capacity so that they have to rent it forever.

We had a Friday the 13th last month, too. They can't be that unlucky. Anyway St. Patrick's Day cancels this one out. ☘️

"She Wants to Dance with Me."

(My favorite is "It Would Take a Strong, Strong Man.")

Theoretically it's good casting if a no-name actor plays Bond. Practically, given the effort Amazon has put in to land the franchise, I think it will be an actor w/ some recognition to sell some tickets regardless of the movie's plot.

13.03.2026 09:07 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The customary fanfare around who gets cast to play #JamesBond ties back to EON's glamorizing Bond from the books to the movies. In the books, he's ordinary; his adventures are extraordinary. Fleming chose James Bond thinking it a plain name.

13.03.2026 08:56 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I sometimes entertain the idea of one-off Bond movies, a different actor, different age range cast each movie. That would be a chore, though. I doubt it will ever happen, but I didn't think the Bond books would go to one-off authors and they did. (Deaver, Faulks, Boyd)

I wonder what this Firefly announcement is and why it's happening on a Sunday.

I really want this ROCKFORD FILES reboot pilot to go to series. I'll be disappointed if it doesn't, but there remains a good chance it won't. If TV execs' taste were like mine, there'd be fewer franchise shows on the air at the same time.

Preparing myself mentally.

12.03.2026 20:16 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Greg Mottola's task directing a ROCKFORD FILES reboot is similar to his task writing and directing CONFESS, FLETCH. Chase's Fletch was similar in popularity to Garner's Rockford, and Mottola and Jon Hamm were averse to doing a Chase impression.

James White of Freakin' Reviews says there's too much meat in McDonald's Big Arch. Valid criticism.

Waffles or griddle cakes to make a sandwich, no. I prefer the top and bottom of a sandwich keep my hands sort of clean.

A sandwich that escapes is such a failure.

I"m ambivalent about bagels. I imagine they've been forced into sandwich configuration. They're too calorie-dense themselves. The product should be the richest part of a sandwich, the top and bottom helping, not outshining the product.

Then again, topping both bagel halves = open-faced sandwich.

If health were no object, I'd say potato. (Hash browns, home fries, french fries for breakfast if you wish...)
