Good news to start 2026! Pollution on Chiswick High Rd continues to decline with NO2 levels in 2025 being almost half of 2018.

The TfL survey covers over 2000 locations across London with over 400 locations in Outer London shown on the map. The surveys are done on a sample of days at similar times of the year for each location.

It was implemented in December 2020 so has been there for almost 5 years & was there before C9 at Hammersmith gyratory was implemented. Hounslow contractors also implemented a section of C9 in H&F as they had the equipment and people on-site already so was easier than H&F contracting separately.

The reduction in casualties isn't surprising. Other locations where road space has been reallocated to protected cycle lanes have also shown safety improvements as it reduces exposure to the biggest danger - motor vehicles

Numbers of cyclists have increased almost 60% since 2019 so this represents a significant reduction in casualty rate. In 2024 there were no recorded pedestrian casualties as a result of collisions with cyclists.

DfT has published 2024 STATS19 road safety data. We looked at 15 yrs of stats #Cycleway9 section Chiswick High Rd & the great news is since C9 was completed in Jan 2023, overall traffic casualties are at the lowest level yet.
