The conspiracy fiction of 15 minute cities gets the @thedailyshow.com treatment ππ€£
I've seen some of this and of course it is not perfect. The point is that while others adopt, we study and pilot. There is as you say mixed reviews, but one would think that they could simply look at the studies and decide.
Seems pretty much on point. Winnipeg pilots everything that has already been studied, piloted, reported and found to be useful.
Lost trust takes a lot of effort to reestablish.
Billboard ad for public transit visible from a freeway filled with cars and congestion, that says βYou are not stuck in traffic. You ARE traffic.β
One of the best of all time.
βYouβre not stuck in traffic. You ARE traffic.β
Wish we had come up with that one. #UrbanTruth
PLEASE HELP US SHARE THIS: βWeβve let the lies be far too successful, and thatβs significantly hurt our cities. No more.β
Itβs our blunt NEW @usa.streetsblog.org op-ed sharing why weβve created @urbantruth.bsky.social. SPOILER: We need to call out the lies and tell the truth much more persuasively!
In the 21st century this is evil incarnate. Poilievre is nothing more than a mini-Trump, willing to sell out our children for the short-term profit of burning oil & gas. The legacy of myopic leaders like this will be to leave a wasteland for the next generation. We must stop them. #EndFossilFuels
Proposal to reduce Winnipegβs default 50 km/h speed limit advances. We need to keep our eye on the prize. 30 kph is the true "safe speed." It is true that βit takesβ¦ seconds more to go 40 versus 50." Is also only takes seconds to go 30 as well. @safespeedswpg.bsky.social t.ly/-1Etq
I love "clean" protected bike infrastructure.
Imagine if someone told you in January 2025 that this is what a poll would show in March 2026.

Great article from @maxfawcett.bsky.social that has me thinking about where we would be now if Justin Trudeau had led the Liberals into the last election and we now had a massive CPC majority that could pretty much do whatever they wanted.
We can set the agenda:β Carney continues his middle-power pitch in Australia. "Carney gave the example of Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea, saying that, combined, they have a larger GDP than the United States and three times the trade of China." t.ly/r4lIv
Phones, laundry machines and more: Canadians keep tossing valuable materials in the trash. βThat is the reality of a linear economy...in which people buy a product, use it & then throw it away, the opposite of a βcircular economyβ that plans for the entire lifetime of a product." t.ly/P4E6U
Pierre Poilievreβs great reset. I would add a ? "But make no mistake: this is still the same person, even if itβs not, for now β the same politician. We shouldnβt confuse any of this for genuine change, not least because Poilievre himself has already rejected the possibility out of hand." t.ly/gA3fY
Of course not true and no doubt he has nothing to back it up. What a tool!
Brilliant and scary.
"..the sole emphasis on a 75-year timeline of digging up the streets & replacing the pipes needs to change. Addressing the imperviousness of the built form through permeable pavements, bio-swales, rain gardens, green roofs, more trees, & βgreen infrastructureβ is needed in the immediate term."
OpenAI's deal with Trump is putting Canadians at risk too. "When the power of AI and Big Tech is being harnessed by the state to undermine basic civil liberties and human rights, itβs usually called technofascism. Now, however, we just call it Trumpβs America." t.ly/6FhId
No plan going in and now conflicting damage control.
Don't wanna be an American idiot
Don't want a nation under the new mania
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?

Fossil fuels will be collateral damage in Trumpβs war on Iran. "By constantly reminding the world about the inherent volatility associated with importing fossil fuels, heβs giving them every reason to wean their economies off them as quickly as possible." t.ly/26sDt

Poilievre pitched a critical mineral stockpile. An industry expert says it's not so simple. PP either does not understand the subject or as always is framed in some mis/disinformation. t.ly/u-gI3
A man (Roger Daltrey) wearing a hat smiles as he sits on an antique tricycle: the rider sits between two large front wheels, propelling the wheels with foot treadles and holding onto handles on either side of him. Behind him is a large cargo box sitting atop the rear wheel.

Actually past time to start on a path to get off oil. Right now we are headed in the opposite direction with Trump pushing oil and gas.
And here in Winnipeg we could do it to but our administration lacks the courage and fear the 4 year election cycle. Its past time for @cityofwinnipeg.bsky.social to do what is right for the city and not for their reelection. Other cities/countries have already charted the way, follow it.
