Can't go wrong with D&D.... But if you get to a point you wanna try something adjacent that's very accessible. I am going to recommend Basic Fantasy Role Play. pdfs are all free. Books are sold near at cost, POD. Roll high D20 system. I use it with my students for our club and they love it.
The Wire felt very complete to me.
