I will also say that it’s a bit wild to me that no press freedom organization or professional journalistic association has tried to contact me or even put out a statement here.

I mean Jesus Christ. A little solidarity from institutions would be nice here!

This is unsatisfying, and in many ways immoral- but I think it's less immoral than "let's set the world on fire and have all the economies go up like July 4th", because (another lesson I wished people would learn) economies are just descriptions of what everyone in the country is doing.

β€œWhen people were asked how many refugees were accepted in Canada in 2018 (during the Roxham Rd. surge), the median answer given by study participants was 256,000. The actual number of refugees accepted by Canada that year was … 49,504. The gap between perception and reality can be staggering.”

It is wild that European countries want to join a war that was started illegally by and for a man who is wanted for war crimes and genocide by their *own* institutions.

Those Mennonite men had a lot to do! Hold down a day job AND preach?! Thank goodness their wives inherited that anabaptist work ethic and enabled it all with ceaseless labour in the home…

US military carries out 1st land operation against cartels in Ecuador: SOUTHCOM The United States and Ecuador conducted joint military operations against "designated terrorist organizations in Ecuador," U.S. Southern Command announced Tuesday.

We said No War and the US government said "best we can do is every war all at the very same time oops we're almost out of bombs but that's probably fine when doing every war, all at the very same time idk we're drunk"

The Prime Minister went to Davos hoping to be Hugh Grant in Love, Actually (a fictionalized Tony Blair who boldly stands up to the US) and came back as the real Tony Blair (a toady for US militarism).

Does this not seem familiar to you? I’ve been raising this issue since taking office. Halifax’s current peril is Ottawa’s future threat. Looks like it’s time to continue talking about Urban3.

β€˜The Believer’ and Me β€œNone of us is innocent,” I wrote in my diary at age 19 and a half. I had just left Israel’s Holocaust memorial/museum, Yad Vashem. β€œI want to cry, but that is pornography. Rich Jews. Rich fucking Jew...

Another unspoken thought within many heads today is, "The Jews, of all people, should know better than to act like Nazis!!!"

Thing is, we don't actually know that it's good for anybody, and conceding this in Trump's favor isn't helpful.

Yes, everyone at the top of the Iranian government was bad. But this does not necessarily mean unilaterally killing them improves the situation! It could make it much worse!

Lloyd Axworthy: Canada once rejected America’s aggressive, unlawful foreign policy. Today Mark Carney embraced it By endorsing preventive strikes on Iran during ongoing diplomacy, and after Washington itself shredded the previous agreement, we are embracing the very doctrine we used to reject, writes Lloyd Axwort...

"We invoke international law and the 'rules based international order' when adversaries engage in unlawful actions, but abandon those same rules entirely when it’s the Americans doing the bombing."

β€œA condemnation of war does not require a comprehensive peace plan and an 'all sides analysis' to be legitimate. Saying 'war is evil' is a complete statement. Don't get drawn into the world of justifications and compromise. It's okay. War is evil.” - Peter Haresnape #Anabaptist #Mennonite #peace

To paraphrase Upton Sinclair, it is difficult to get a man to understand that unilateral military attacks are illegal, when his plan to massively expand his nation’s arms exports trade depends on his not understanding it.

It is March 1st, which means the launch of our very successful Transit Satisfaction survey.

The last survey was powerful in shaping policy, and I expect this one going into a election, and being 'post pandemic' to be even more so. So please share widely.

When the government has announced our economic resilience depends on massive expansion of our global arms export trade with the highest bidders, whomsoever they may be, it doesn’t do to focus too much on the expected outcomes of exporting arms

Other Western countries should be coming together to try to preserve the international rules and norms they’ve promoted so vigorously for decades. Instead, we’re seeing them largely go along with US breaches of international law and violations of human rights to not suffer trade restrictions.

you're not an important statesman with opinions that will sway the destiny of nations. no need to be measured and reasonable about what you think we can achieve. you can just be morally opposed to all of it, it's actually the easiest position to have.

I hope Carney's statement in response to the attacks on Iran have disspelled any illusions among Liberals and social democrats that he is a politician with progressive principles, or that there is anyone in the Liberal cabinet with the principle to stand up for a principled foreign policy. #cdnpoli
