Huw Watkins's Symphony No. 2 is officially released today! At its premiere, critics praised it as "optimistic, easy to grasp and subtle." Listening to it today, that resilient, brassy optimism and those ravishing orchestral textures feel just as refreshing and vital to experience right now.

Here's 1 of only 2 photos of the icon of piano music of the 19th century Charles-Valentin Alkan, with the advances of photo editing Ai, and clever long prompting, this is a possible likeness of him.

Based on the history of the sport, Ross is correct. While Cork and Tipperary have a massive rivalry and are two of hurling's most successful teams, they have never actually met in an All-Ireland final before. So yes, it is genuinely unprecedented AND "historic".

Simeon ten Holt - Canto Ostinato for two pianos and two marimbas YouTube video by Krishanth Suriyapragasam

It's not often that classical music feels like ideal background music, but Simeon ten Holt's Canto Ostinato for two pianos and two marimbas manages just that. Hypnotic and evolving, it creates a wonderful sonic landscape.

Michael Kurek: Symphony No. 3 "English" Michael Kurek Β· Album Β· 2025 Β· 4 songs

Michael Kurek's Symphony No. 3 "English" exemplifies his neo-traditional, melodic, narrative, and tonal style. He believes in the power of beautiful, well-crafted tonal music, a "lost art," and aims for new works that are both well-composed and widely appealing.

John Taylor (c. 1703 – 1770 or 1772) was an early British eye surgeon, self-promoter and medical charlatan of 18th-century Europe. He is responsible for the surgical mistreatment of George Frideric Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach, and perhaps hundreds of others. Both Handel and Bach died shortly after the botched surgery performed by Taylor

Taylor's career was destructive. His general approach included bloodletting, laxatives, and eyedrops of blood from slaughtered pigeons, pulverized sugar, or baked salt. In late March 1750, during one of his European tours, Taylor operated on Bach's cataracts twice in Leipzig and reportedly blinded him. Bach fell ill with a fever and died less than four months later. There is some evidence that Taylor operated on Handel in August 1758, in Tunbridge Wells, after which Handel's health deteriorated until his death in April 1759. In both cases Taylor claimed complete success.[1] Prior to performing each surgical procedure, he would deliver a long, self-promoting speech in an unusual oratorial style.[2] Dutch ophthalmologist R. Zegers said that "Taylor started practicing in Switzerland, where he blinded hundreds of patients, he once confessed"
