Apparently adult pandas spend 10-16 hours of the day eating. They have to because of the low nutrition content of bamboo and their size.
Imagine needing to eat almost constantly just to survive. It's like the villain of a horror flick. Except these cursed villains are adorable, so we protect them.
Kickstarter for new @calendaroffools.bsky.social anthology dropping soon! www.kickstarter.com/projects/cal...
What's the weirdest protagonist of a story you've written?

So glad I could contribute to the tradition started by Ursula Le Guin and carried on in some of my favorite stories by Isabel Kim, NK Jemisin, and others.
One of my writing groups, @calendaroffools.bsky.social, is going to be running another Kickstarter for a Missed-Fits anthology. Follow if you're interested in when it launches. If the KSer funds, there will be an open call in March or so. www.kickstarter.com/projects/cal...
My saddest poem "Cultured Methodologies" is out in Worlds of IF #179. So cool to share a table of contents with @aijiang.bsky.social, Robert Silverberg, and others!

Just sold my "The Ones Who Walk Away From New Jerusalem" to Sci Phi Journal. This isn't one I expected to sell because it's probably my most blasphemous story (generally in keeping with the character of the #UrsulaLeGuin story it's a response to).
This is my first issue as poetry editor and it features poetry by Michael Butterworth, @andydibble.bsky.social, Robert Frazier, @bugthewriter.bsky.social, @cybergodwrites.bsky.social, @jennahanchey.bsky.social, Howard V. Hendrix, @aijiang.bsky.social, Lauren McBride, & John Reinhart + lots more
I'm going to slush for UFO 10 (Unidentified Funny Objects), but only if the Kickstarter funds. So chip in if you can and you want to support an under-appreciated sub-genre of spec fic. Only 5 days left. It's going to be close!

Another writing first for me: had a swear word censored by an editor!
My Bible translation into alien languages story out in @penumbricmag.bsky.social! First time that I'm #1 in a table of contents! :)
love the cover art!
Just received an acceptance on a story I submitted 22 months ago. Interesting year of firsts for me.
you mean badass.
Flat Earth people tend to have unreasonable expectations of science. Normally they think all investigation has to be done by oneself. If you're just using your eyes, you can think the moon is cheese or has a man in it (or a rabbit if you're, say, Indian).
Now I'm glad I didn't do my masters there a little over a decade ago even though they were going to pay my tuition.
Thanks!
My Writers of the Future winning story "A Word That Means Everything" is out in @penumbricmag.bsky.social. New achievement for me because it's the first time my work has been first in a ToC!
My microessay "Orality and Respawn" about how oral traditions can address a problem in game storytelling is out in @crepuscularmag.bsky.social. It's one of the few works I've had two absolutely bomb titles for, the other being "Retold and Replayed"

When visiting family in Cally this past week I learned that there are people who refer to themselves as "coastal elites" with a straight face.
More writing news! My "Migration" (originally in What Remains anthology by @inkedingraypress.bsky.social ) is coming out again in "Win in the End" anthology by @knightwritingpress.bsky.social!
Big writing news for me. Just signed for my poem "Why We Give" to appear in Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine!
Selling "Why We Give" taught me you can turn any kind of experience into saleable words, even bleeding into a bag for the @americanredcross.bsky.social!

Best line I wrote yesterday didn't drop while I was writing: "Morality's above our paygrade, isn't it?" Also perhaps my best six word story.
Have a poem coming out in #worldsofIF ! "Cultured Methodologies" is my saddest poem. Also my first anthropological piece.
Lots of impressive names in the last issue. I wonder who my neighbors will be.
Today's idea for novel in progress: crafting gear from character's own body parts.
