I might actually make this sometime, sounds like fun.
Also, shout out to Reddit.com/r/VirtualDemocracy, a new political experiment happening on Reddit!
Now that I think about it, it would be cool to see this game idea implemented with the people in r/VirtualDemocracy, idk. ☕️

Hear me out:
A real-time cooperative/strategic virtual table-top war game where everyone manages specialized units to wage war against a powerful nation run by an imperialist dictator.

I accidentally became President of a nation.
I found this new subreddit: reddit.com/r/virtualdemocracy. As the Speaker of Parliament, I’m the acting President too.
Anyways, we’re still accepting candidates for the actual first President, and that honor could be yours!

I love that take on the concept! I get so used to medieval fantasy themes that I forget to consider other themes that might fit an idea better.

Hear me out: a pixel art game where your health is represented by a candle that is constantly burning down, and you need to find new candles to keep yourself alive. Also you can only see a certain radius around yourself, which shrinks as your candle burns down.

I stumbled across something called a “simulated democracy”, and I think it’s a cool social experiment concept. There’s one that’s starting up on Reddit at the moment called r/VirtualDemocracy if anyone wants to join in the shenanigans.

I’ll definitely contact you once I’m further along in the process, if that looks like the way I’m going to go. I may also try to self-host, depending on a number of factors.
As it is, I still have to do a bunch of planning, code, marketing, etc. before it all goes live.

Depending on the game, I like to have a “crosshair” instead of a “pointer” cursor.

Gaming Question:
What’s the worst thing that video game companies do, and what would you do instead if you had a say?
All input is appreciated, including and especially slightly-off-topic rants. Thanks!

I’ll also scatter treasure and traps throughout the maze, along with custom structures that house puzzles, mobs, unique loot, & strategic importance.
There will be multiple levels, with stairs up and down scattered throughout the map. When the map resets, players get sent back to their team’s base.

Once I’ve got the code part figured out, I’ll start looking into setting up a public Minecraft server for people to play in it.
My idea is that it will be a PvP factions server where the map (except faction bases) resets on a regular basis (e.g. weekly).

A mostly gray map with green lines on it. The green lines represent accessible areas on the map, while the grayed out parts are unfortunately closed off.
Working on a C++ program that makes random Minecraft mazes. The green represents areas that are actually reachable by players. Hopefully I’ll be able to get rid of more of the gray by fine-tuning the settings.
I am also working on a Minecraft mod that can translate the maze to the game.

A basic video game menu with two buttons. The right one is blank and the left one reads “here there be dragons”
I’ve been tinkering with the menu for my next demo. It’s vaguely Norse-inspired, and will showcase “the weapon”.
Originally these boxes were going to be ui, but they’re too big.
I invented a little runic pixel language for this, so the symbols around the edges actually mean something.

I don’t lose momentum as much because I can finish a demo quickly enough, and then I get excited/inspired and can hardly wait to start the next one.
I’m tricking my brain into being able to make one big game without getting too burnt out.

Thanks!
And I completely agree. I’m developing a series of demos for the different game mechanics, since I’m not using a game engine. Once I have them all finished, I’ll combine all the code into a big game with its own storyline that will hopefully be really fun to play.

I’m still toying with the concept in my head, but I might set it up sometime.
Not sure how I would afford it tho, and I don’t want to put ads on it or use any illegal gambling to make up for server costs like some servers I can think of.

This is so real.
I initially started working on my first (and so far only) game because I wanted to play it, and every once in a while I take a break from working on it to play it and enjoy the game I made for myself.

Idea: a PvP Minecraft server with a limited map and no block breaking. Players struggle to survive a dark, dungeon-like maze, gathering resources and fighting hostile mobs (plus other players).
There are clans and static clan bases. The map changes each night at midnight.

I agree. I get crazily inspired by stuff on itch. Amazing games out there. Whenever I’m in a creative rut for my own stuff, seeing what other people made gets me going again.
Obviously I don’t steal anyone’s work, but I definitely pull and modify unique mechanics and gameplay aspects I come across.

One day I’m going to make a factory-style production-based video game with a fully fleshed out multiplayer combat system (the actual buildings themselves will fight). I have no clue what that means, but I’ll take suggestions if anyone wants to contribute to my insanity.

I’m working on the next demo for my game: the weapons system!!
There’s only one weapon, and it’s going to be absolutely crazy and fully customizable. I’m flavoring it as magic for the demo, but it’ll be tech in the final version.
Preview coming soon!

Might use one of them for my own stuff if anyone has an idea that my single remaining brain cell likes.

We could even maintain a collective block list for accounts that are known AI “imposters”.
The biggest problem with AI is that people make it pretend to be human, and an easy way to tell the difference would be the have a creator-specified, community-enforced distinguishing characteristic.

Hear me out:
We make a slogan for human made content. Make it brief and sound cool. Encourage people to mark their own stuff with it rather than a clunky “no ai” message. Create ownership and belonging.
If you use it for anything ai-generated, we collectively block you, regulating it organically.

No problems with this room. Has a ceiling and at least 2 walls (maybe 3, based on the upper left corner of the image). Semi-clean even. Ideal living conditions for a guy like me.
If you’re not careful I might move in. Set up a mattress and maybe a desk if I feel ambitious. Then what will you do?

Plus having more game devs means more opportunity for someone to break new ground. If we have less people making games, they will focus on catering to the general market rather than just making a new and fun game.

The global collection is worth more than it used to be, even if individual games aren’t worth as much. Worth of games in early days used to be based on scarcity of alternatives, now it’s based on novelty and a loose standard of quality. These are steps forward, not backwards.
