Recovering American abroad. Arsenal, inveterate reader and list maker, movies, and other stuff. Was allegedly good at FPL once. My Letterboxd movie reviews: https://boxd.it/4pqcp My book reviews on Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/33921897

Dead Mail (2024)
Shudder films are usually hit or miss but this was a pleasant surprise. Oozes 80’s aesthetics, creepy music and characters just off kilter enough to keep you constantly unsettled. Note to self, if I ever get kidnapped, I’m looking for the nearest post box to drop a note in for help
Only having my FH left, I’m going to have to decide whether to prioritize DGW33 or BGW34. Have a lot of value tied up in my players so selling them and getting them back in 35 isn’t an option. Think there’s more value in playing offense in GW33 but still time to think
I had him for that purple patch of fixtures and he killed it. Sold him for the current fixture run and he keeps scoring. I’m pretty sure I’m bringing him jn for Haaland this week and keeping him to the end.
I don’t want to be a grammar Nazi or anything but I think you spelled Sesko wrong :)
I think the logistical problem with it would be the variability of the costs. Businesses generally plan their budgets years into the future. Wages are a mostly fixed expense, but the cost of energy is different depending on the economy and how much an individual uses it
The Borderlands (2013)
Pretty decent entry in the found footage genre that starts slowly but has good chemistry between the characters, some pagan-Catholic mythology, really creepy caves, and a fantastic and terrifying ending.
I’m usually jaded about these things but yikes!😱 😳
Exit 8 (2023)
Conceptually, being stuck in an endless subway loop you can only escape by noticing your surroundings is a great metaphor for many of us sleepwalking through our lives. The film doesn’t trust its audience to connect these dots on their own but otherwise it’s a decent if not great film.
Cocoa is one of those words here in Japan that never feels right coming out of my mouth. I was brought up to pronounce it “co-co” but here they pronounce it “co-co-ah” 🤷♂️
“Worcestershire” I don’t even mess with. My mom called it “wursh-ter” sauce as a kid and I’ve always just rolled with that 😂
“A Man” (2022)
Brilliant film about a bunch of people who wish they were anything but what they actually are and living lives they wish they weren’t, and the extreme lengths some of them go to get a new start. A very quiet and contemplative film with some real emotional gut punches
Weather getting nicer out there. Samantha up early to get some breakfast and start her day. 🦊
Will set up some glorious benching dilemmas but almost too spicy to not do it 🌶️
I assumed the plan was to wait out Poch until after the World Cup but the longer this relegation battle drags on, I wonder how much he’d be interested in coming back. Who would you like to see take over?
Even as an Arsenal fan, hope you all don’t go down. With that new stadium, could be catastrophic indeed
An mix this week of dumb beautiful people terrorized by a monkey, an early Japanese cop procedural from the 50’s, a much better than expected mockumentary about earnest film nerds, and a slasher about a guy named Bone Face I watched because it’s called Bone Face

Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan were both really fascinating people as well. Think Spencer Tracy really nailed Darrow especially
Inherit the Wind is one of my all time favorites. Spencer Tracy is a force of nature in every scene
This was awful. Not even in a fun, campy kind of way. Just awful.
I don’t know how you mess up a film about a killer monkey but kudos to this film for figuring it out
I think in the case of Jose And Conte though, they basically forced themselves out more than the club not having patience with them. Conte basically torched the club in a press conference and was gone 8 days later.
I’m fairly sure Joao Pedro is coming back for Haaland soon as part of a big -12. Was going to do it today before his price rise but for the first time this season, think my team value is good enough to let one price rise pass me by while I think a little more
Maybe I’m naive but I really don’t understand why this is so hard. The purpose of having an offside rule is to negate an unfair advantage. If your feet are beyond the last defender, that’s an advantage. Having your hand, face or elbow fractionally beyond, 30 yards from goal? 🤷♂️
Didn’t they have the actual Jose Mourinho coaching them not too long ago?
I’ll second that. And maybe take a -12 this week in solidarity
Really sorry to hear that. I know he was struggling with FPL and maybe with life a bit. Really hope he’s doing ok. Seemed like a good guy.
Brighton play the football that fits their squad. As do most competently run teams.
Arsenal is full of tall, strong, physical players. Why wouldn’t they emphasize set pieces? If Hürzeler had Gabi, Saliba, Havertz, Merino…in his squad, I’m sure he wouldn’t utilize them on set pieces right? 😂
Hürzeler is such a sad little man. What team, on any level looks at their squad and says: “We have a squad that is really good at A. We practice it all the time. But other teams don’t think it’s aesthetically pleasing so let’s not do it”
It’s a patently ridiculous argument.
58 points all out. The tiniest of green arrows to push me up 50k at 4.5m.
Hill bench jam tastes good.
Rayan off the bench with his nothing burger less satisfying.
In a world where Joao Pedro doesn’t exist, I’d be flying.
Might blow this team up this week for that final push!
Brought in Wilson on my WC last week. Helped me get to my highest point total of the season (95). Think he’s one of those great assets that gets overlooked because of his price but he’s been ticking over all season 👍
