I agree, but I'm also selling up most of my stuff from necessity as well. It sucks! Two cameras down, two more to go (via eBay), and a whole bunch of lenses to figure out!
I actually know someone in my work who fell for the equivalent of the "wallet inspector!" bit from The Simpsons, so I've decided to no longer make any base assumptions about the average punter's ability to spot obvious scams! 😂
