Yeah this week was the first time my therapist didn’t really even try to push back when I said my mental health was being adversely affected by the news.

Democrats should reintroduce War Powers Resolution ASAP in Congress. Could at least force Republicans to explain why they're not open to putting any limitations at all on a megalomaniacal war leader.
Really deft review of the Enrigue. So well written it seems like it must have been easy, but I find reviews with that tone so hard to write. (And I have one coming out next week, so will see what my editor thinks about my attempt ha!)
Yeeee. Ikes. That is…definitely a thing someone wrote.
Honestly, I was hoping “whole” was intentional rather than an apt, if utterly depressing, malaprop.
Scrap that earlier post. I see what I was confused about. Still extremely impressive result from you today!
Now do the guy attacking Dunkin, among the 10000 other much worse things. Thx.
“Maciel’s novel also reads like a scrapbook or family album of a Brazilian city, in this case Rio de Janeiro.”
Read @coryoldweiler.bsky.social on THERE'S NO POINT IN DYING by Francisco Maciel 💥

For @southwestreview.bsky.social I wrote about Francisco Maciel’s THERE’S NO POINT IN DYING, trans. by Bruna Dantas Lobato, a novel that reminded me a bit of the work of another Brazilian, Kleber Mendonça Filho, in its depiction of a city through an agglomeration of the lives of its characters.
Suffering the consequences of having done that right now!
Hey, some of us can only continue to dream of being a good enough critic that we get emails from fake bestselling author bots.
I haven’t used it the new built in one. I always talk on speaker and record on my phone and my watch or iPad to have a backup. I’ve used Just Press Record for this kind of thing for years and never had it crap out on me. Don’t know if that would work as a backup for your system.
One can only hope that we live long enough to see it for every single one of these hateful, evil clowns and every republican who enabled them.
That’s so interesting! Not a translator (or AI user), but I have noticed some text editors, such as Drafts, only make straight apostrophes and quotes. I take notes in Drafts while reading and occasionally catch an uncurly contraction or quotation I didn’t retype once I’m in iAWriter or Word.
Oh, that’s great. I’m in Italy for a while anyway, so wasn’t sure about shipping from the UK. Maybe if I start planning now I can find some way to write about it for the North Amer. release…hmm. Thanks for writing back. Take care.
We can’t have anything nice.
@jencalleja.bsky.social apologies for asking but are there plans for a digital version of FAIR? For various lifestyle reasons, I can only really comfortably acquire ebooks. I’m not averse to shipping a physical copy overseas then donating it to a used book store, but will wait if an ebook is coming.
Great wrap up.
Literally just got done texting it to like seven people. I saw Star Wars in theaters so many times as young kid so he’s just been a consistent part of my entire life. Fascinating to think of the crazy life he’s lived and to arrive at this genuinely humble stage.
@jowrotethis.bsky.social House of R deep-dive recording once Mal recovers I assume/hope?
Honestly the world is all bad and this still infuriates me.
Very similar to my reaction. I’ve had a little trouble with some of the seemingly abrupt character turns this season, but whenever I reflect on the world that the show is playing with (ie, our world), I realize my reaction is probably more naïveté or latent Gen X idealism. Incredible Marisa Abela ep
What they want is another place to build real estate and make money. They don’t give a shit about the people actually living there.
Respectfully, I’d fire the person who wrote this. “An immediate all senators classified briefing”??? You should probably also fire whoever read it and said, “Sure, this looks perfect.”
I love this piece! I feel like I saw it when it came out or at some point since then. For better or worse my life is dangerously close to this because I often refuse to compromise…unfortunately as I get old(er) I’m really conscious of the flaws in my thinking!!!
When I was amNY and actually used to be assigned interviews I had this same thing happen a couple times. (In the same vein, I also once had a guy I’d interviewed for a news article come back to me and say—genuinely pleased—“Great article! You printed the things that I actually said!”
Just got done listening to a podcast of tech folks I really respect talking about how they sometimes use the AI response at the top of a search engine but so often it’s wrong…and I’m just thinking “what the hell are you looking it up for if you know the answer?”
Love the rollercoaster ride of getting a positive response back from a new outlet only to reach the bottom of the email and read “btw we don’t pay you”… How do critics write for no money?? I guess if you’re married or wealthy you can just devote 10–30 hours for free?
NYT games app is one more puzzle shoved in at the top away from losing me…
One of many reasons I’m so frustrated w/ “desktop-class” Safari on my M4 iPad Pro is the continued malfunction of sites like Squarespace. (I know the only one I have to blame for persisting with an iPad-only setup is myself, although work/life constraints make it ideal & somewhat necessary.)
