As one of the first people to use the term publicly to describe Trump (in mid-2016), I must say it’s bittersweet to have so many people now familiar with malignant narcissism. Greater understanding about this type of personality is sorely needed, but what a helluva way to have awareness raised.
While often superficially charming and able to convey a convincing false narrative, malignant narcissists leave a trail of destruction in their wake and externalize blame for the wreckage they cause. The pattern isn’t officially diagnostic, but it’s one of the easiest ways to recognize these people.
