Text from OpenAI article on its educational programs:

"Agency does not emerge from basic AI use alone. Students must progress from simple tasks to deeper applications such as studying, building, creating, coding, and managing agents. But among college-age users, we see a widening global “capability overhang,” defined as the gap between what AI tools can do and how people actually use them. Even advanced student users still operate roughly 90% to 99% below how power users of ChatGPT are engaging with our tools.

Educational institutions play a central role in closing that gap. Faculty and educators can help students harness AI’s full potential by embedding authentic AI use cases into coursework—assignments that use AI and mirror real professional work, such as analyzing a market, designing a product concept, evaluating a policy trade-off, or building a simple agent"

Shouldn't let OpenAI puff about education get to me, but its claim students need AI skills for future jobs and "agency", then letting slip it really means making students into GPT "power users", and making that an educational imperative, *and* planning to measure it ... 😦 openai.com/index/ai-edu...

So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and they’re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was “your piano is too close to the fireplace, you’ll dry it out” and if that’s not the internet in a nutshell I don’t know what is.

My two teams, Southampton and Winchester City, were both relegated last season. Winchester at least kept it to the last day of the season

Dad’s dad was RAF.
Mum’s dad was a very curious guy, came from what is now Poland in the 30s for obvious reasons, ran among other things a sausage skin factory, two hotels, a taxi firm, also involved in black market food trading and arranging jazz gigs, went bust in basically every business

AI Translations Are Adding ‘Hallucinations’ to Wikipedia Articles AI translated articles swapped sources or added unsourced sentences with no explanation, while others added paragraphs sourced from completely unrelated material.

NEW: Wikipedia editors have implemented new policies and restricted a number of contributors who were paid to use AI to translate existing Wikipedia articles into other languages after they discovered these AI translations added AI “hallucinations,” or errors, to the resulting article.

Trump to POLITICO: ‘I really don’t care’ if Iran plays in World Cup The country has pulled back from World Cup preparations after U.S. military attack.

It would be so ridiculous if Iran lose the chance to play in the World Cup because they’re being bombed by the hosts and FIFA actively helps exclude them because Infantino is the biggest Trump fanboy.

I distinctly remember talking to a then Bundesliga coach about all this years ago and he was very dismissive of it, saying that the refs would just call a foul every time. What this strategy presupposes is: what if they don't?

I love it when an app is ‘streamlined’ which removes a very useful function to force you to add something else (esp when the thing they want you to add doesn’t work with another app you already use). The desire of tech companies to iterate is 90% more harm than good

Same goes for hockey work, I think. Most of the really interesting questions about hockey are about whatever branch of social science hockey research is, which is independent of stats (or any other measurement technique).
