Had the unbelievable privilege of hearing Seong-Jin Cho perform the complete solo piano works of Ravel on Wednesday night. Cho is one of the best Ravel interpreters alive, I think; so sensitive and coloristic. His soft playing is utterly transcendent

TRUMP: And from what they tell me, you know, Kant said we couldn’t do it, and the Germans have done great things, really great things, but I don’t know about Kant, but they tell me that we’re going to see it, and frankly maybe even touch it,

TRUMP: And we’re actually planning, if you can believe this, we’ve actually been working with Elon, and we’re going to cognize, they tell me that’s the word, we’re going go cognize noumena,

Someone should make an immersive video game/sim where you play as Joan Didion and try to manage a beautiful writing career in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The title, which is also its marketing gimmick, could be JRPG, short for Joan (Didion) Role Playing Game, instead of Japanese Role Playing Game.

A very short chapter I just fell in love with in MarΓas’s β€œDark Back of Time.” (The β€œit” referred to in the opening sentence is being remembered as a β€œnice young man.”)

The New York Times had entire homepages full of stories on campus antisemitism hearings.

It has not yet written about the biggest human rights organization in the world saying that Israel is committing genocide.

Pretty sure Lerner doesn’t have any active social media accounts. He has an instagram but I think there’s like one post on it from years ago with no text lol

hey all, any recommendations for introductory stuff on Deleuze? I’m reading Todd May’s intro to Deleuze right now and finding it difficult because it feels vague. Maybe I just need to dive into his work or closely study the SEP article??

I remember he has a violin sonata in D-flat major which is such a bizarre key for that instrument. Something a little magical about the choice

What’s on the listening menu today? fwiw, if you’ve never heard Rachmaninoff’s piano trios I adore them…and the Ravel trio is to die for

I haven't fallen in love with Woolf yetβ€”I read Mrs. Dalloway and I wasn't in love with that either. Maybe her work just isn't for me but I love to love things and always seek a way in if I can find it...it could be that I'll reread these in years and love them, and thus avoid cancellation :)

I think it's tough for me to get over the artifice of the form and the very ceremonious way every thought is delivered. Those thoughts can be very beautiful, but sometimes there's a dense cloud of figurative language that feels if not opaque then at least occlusive

I did some kind of paper or presentation on Muczynski at some point (I have no memory of its content now). I think it was about the usefulness of his intermediate repertoire for teaching purposes though…it was for piano pedagogy

I feel bad for not liking The Waves as a novel. Its language is often beautiful enough that I write down phrases to save them but I am just not enjoying it as a novel…it’s possible I’m a monster idk
