Celebrating and supporting Black American Culture does not end with February. The fight to end fascism and racism in this country, takes many shapes including:
Support Black-owned businesses and restaurants.
Visit a Black museum/cultural institution or historical site.
As February ends and March begins, I would like to encourage us all to take a moment and reflect. We must continue to honor the past and present achievements of Black Americans as American History, while simultaneously reaffirming our commitment to Justice, Equity and Opportunity for All.
The Affordable Water Now package (House Bills 4555, 5170–5173) offers real, lasting change: a fair billing structure, protections for vulnerable households, and the certainty that basic needs won’t be compromised when times get tough.

As MN State Senator Erin Maye Quade (D) stated, “We are not broken. We are not tired. We will stand in the gap forever for our neighbors. But this must end. And then we must repair.”
We will not forget Minnesota in our advocacy as we hold the line in our own state. Minnesota is a test case for what this administration could be allowed to do here at home. Minnesotans must be supported and protected and we must stop ICE before communities nationwide are also under siege.
On this trip legislators learned what we must prepare for and what we must never accept. We saw firsthand the incredible and necessary ways Minneapolis is fighting for peace and for the dignity of their neighbors.
I am honored to be one of four state legislators from Michigan who joined 53 lawmakers from around the country in person, and one of almost 600 state legislators who signed a letter condemning the federal government’s assault on our freedoms.
An update on the POAM post: www.facebook.com/share/p/1DPF...
This organization’s members need to make clear that this post does not reflect their collective values, or its members need to acknowledge that this reflects the humans they are.
You can’t offer safety and justice while simultaneously mocking and minimizing the attacks being experienced by people nationwide and most glaringly in Minneapolis.
This is not just unprofessional, it is irresponsible and dangerous. POAM, the official organization that serves to represent police officers statewide, should not be spreading this kind of propaganda. What our communities need is safety and justice.
As we face adversity, let’s remember and embrace the strength Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. exemplified. Arrested, assaulted and threatened, he never wavered in his pursuit of justice.
“If there is any group that is avoiding the pain of this moment, it is the wealthiest among us…all of this is for the most part, helping them.”

While this is still developing and likely to face numerous legal challenges, it is clear that these proposed rules directly endanger Michigan’s entire healthcare infrastructure. Gender affirming care in Michigan continues to be safe, legal, and life-saving!
Today, the Trump Administration announced proposed rules that aim to restrict transgender young people's access to healthcare, including cutting all Medicare & Medicaid funding from hospitals that provide transgender healthcare to young people. THIS IS NOT A BAN AND THESE RULES AREN’T IN EFFECT YET!
May your Hanukkah be filled with love and peace. Chag Sameach!
