Although I might be misinterpreting how the page described the switches on the axes controlling the channels, perhaps its still analog and the switches are just used for triggering the value to be sent to one of the 3 channels?
Fascinating stuff.
I'm getting an urge to reinstall Orbiter and try to do an ISS dock. :)
Here's the site I found with details of the shuttle one, where they say it's switch based: w.16streets.com/39-B/HTML%20...
The Apollo THC does three rotation axes (two regular and twist) and 1 translation axis (in/out). The twist was for emergency actions.

From what I've found on a web site about the shuttle hardware, the THC is a digital device, it contains 6 micro switches.
One interesting device for a vertical mounted 3DOF pure translation control would be a Novint Falcon. But those are a bit rare now and bulky. (Got one on the shelf next to me)
It does seem pretty hard to find any 3 axis joystick that isn't rotation for Z instead of translation.
I've looked around in the past (for other reasons).
I already have 2 3D Connexion space mice, they work great in Elite Dangerous. :)
A storm passed by here in north west Brisbane. 7cm hail! No damage I can see, but it was certainly loud.

Some of the lesser known Transformers (from Aliexpress). :)
I've still got an indent in my back, like I fell asleep on a small oval shaped object in the middle between my shoulder blades, but you'd never know it was a hole.
The vacuum pump I had to wear non stop for 8 weeks cost $30000 and went through about $200 worth of disposable parts every week. The hospital covered everything, free to me.
(They use them for rapid wound healing, amazing device)
2023 - Staph infection on my back grew giant, anti biotics the local doctor gave me had a BAD allergic reaction. Went to emergency entrance at RBH. Had a 5cm (and deep enough to cast a shadow) hole cut in my back to remove it.
The food was great. :)
The emergency ward stuff is great. I was hospitalised for a week, had surgery, large amounts of IVs, then 8 weeks of a 24/7 vacuum pump and twice a week wound redressing. The cost was about $8 (I bought two bottles of fizzy water from a vending machine).
Have you tried the recent Robocop Rogue City?
Very enjoyable (and has Peter Weller).

Adult male Eastern Water Dragon having a swim in a fake pond I bought from Bunnings.
(Bought it for the dragons)
Baby eastern water dragon lizard.
A baby Eastern Water Dragon in my backyard.

It's been a LONG time since I've watched that one. :)
