He was perhaps right.
I always thought The Cramps were a little like the Ramones - weren't quite taken seriously by the press who looked on them both as slightly jokey, but both were much better than anyone thought and no one could copy what they did.

I think it's their best. You'll hear why...and the intro is brilliant "Ladies and gentlemen, live from the Peppermint Lounge, The Crampsss..."

The first line in Wighat is also very memorable. But...its Ivy's guitar playing which makes it.

Great records - if you've never heard Smell of Female you're in for a treat. I'm not a fan of live albums, but this is on another level.

It's World Book Day, so you could either buy the social studies coursebook I once wrote for Harper Collins (its interesting but not THAT interesting), OR you could buy the Doctor Who 2026 Annual I edited for DWAS (and brilliantly designed by @wonderfulbooks.co.uk ).

I'm very pleased that WOTD is finally getting it's day in the sun - if you could at the bottom of the sea. I think it's the best story in the season. Loads of great stuff in it. I shall look forward to seeing the revamped version.

Edmund H. North might have been involved in this in some way.
A so-so end of the world book of the disastrous film, with almost everyone in a general state of apathy about the impending doom. Even the boffins charged with solving the problem slip out for a bit of shopping.

It's such a great cover. I wanted to use it for an upcoming DWAS thing and contacted the copyright holders (of the artwork) and they asked for a fee, which was a bit chunky. I was surprised tbh but also not surprised.

Shame GB didnt win the curling tonight. They were exceptional. I shall miss my daily 4 hour curling viewing and the Winter Olympics in general.

I've barely thought about football at all while its been on, which has been a good thing.

So, for reasons best known to its useless AI mods, Facebook has deleted the Obverse Books page, and removed all 1000+ followers. We've created a new page, so if you're on FB and want to keep up with Obverse news there, rather than here, this is the new link:

A very interesting piece. On the one hand I found some of Byrne's comments at odds with my own view and fans broad view (then again ive had half a century to ponder mine), but on the other it must have been an unenviable task to do - after all there are criticisms of colleagues in there.

I can't be the only one who thought there would be a helicopter coming over the horizo piloted by some Norwegians in pursuit?

I've been enjoying the curling at the Olympics, but disappointed that GB couldn't quite beat Canada. Been close to winning a few matches.
Anyway, I thought this headline would be better as "Ice brink"? No?

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed 12 years ago with a particularly rare and troublesome one. I hope it's not too debilitating. Best I can say is not to let it define you, but I know that's easier said than done. Best wishes

I planted mine on my plot 5th October. They are doing remarkably well despite having been soaked every day for weeks.

It's a very moody version. Very Good. I have the 12" which has a HUGE poster of Annabel Lamb in it.

I worked at the University library in 1996/7 and occasionally was despatched over to MERL to do some 'important' cataloging (moving boxes) as per my junior status. At least I'm sure it was MERL - a portacabin on the University campus. I thought MERL was great.

Yes! One of them just said, they are so hard (these competitors) they have concrete for breakfast.

The winter Olympics is great tele. The commentators in all the sports are so good (BBC) but the two fellas who do the snowboarding are superb. I know nothing of snowboarding, but their enthusiasm is infectious. Top class.

It's a great film. I love this list of characters in the synopsis of Airport by Arthur Hailey. If you read it with the style of a 70s voice over (or even Lloyd Bridges) its very funny.
